About the Business
Welcome to Melbourne Polytechnic's Heidelberg Campus, a leading training center for building trades in Victoria, Australia. Located in the City of Banyule, Heidelberg West, our campus offers state-of-the-art facilities and large-scale simulation environments to help you master a building trade.
Conveniently situated just 30 minutes northeast of the CBD, our campus provides comprehensive training in electrical, plumbing, engineering, bricklaying, and carpentry and joinery. Whether you're a beginner or looking to upskill, our expert instructors will guide you through hands-on learning experiences to ensure you gain the practical skills needed for a successful career.
At Melbourne Polytechnic, we understand that studying can sometimes be overwhelming. That's why our Information Centres are here to assist you with everything you need to know, from enrolling in courses to obtaining parking permits. We also provide general information on our coronavirus information page to keep you updated on any relevant announcements.
Our Heidelberg campus boasts custom-built environments for each trade we teach. Electrical students have access to a real-world testing environment, while plumbing apprentices can practice their trade using the largest training sandpit in the Southern Hemisphere, simulated house stations, and an advanced gas training laboratory. Additionally, our 'barn', dedicated to building industry training, offers ample space for constructing full-scale relocatable homes with its 8-meter roof and 1450 square meter floor area.
In addition to building trades, our Heidelberg campus is home to Melbourne Polytechnic's Technical Education Centre (TEC). The TEC provides vocational training and education to 15-20 year-olds who have not completed secondary school, offering courses in the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) in various trade skills, including bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and shopfitting.
As a building trades student, you will typically spend one day per week at our Heidelberg campus, with the rest of your time dedicated to gaining practical experience through employment. Our campus provides comfortable indoor and outdoor study areas, including a well-equipped library, where you can make the most of your learning experience.
During the warmer months, take advantage of our green park between training centers to catch up with friends or enjoy lunch on the garden tables and benches. You can also enjoy our basketball court and lawn area for recreational activities. On rainy days, our recreation hall offers a cozy retreat with its own coffee shop, ping pong table, and relaxation areas.
Situated in the leafy-green suburb of Heidelberg, our campus is surrounded by a vibrant shopping strip, including supermarkets and cafes. If you feel like exploring beyond the campus, you have plenty of options for entertainment, such as the nearby Yarra River and lush parklands.
Join us at Melbourne Polytechnic's Heidelberg Campus and embark on a rewarding journey to become a skilled professional in the building trades.

"Loved the food, the quick and efficient service. A business client and I had lunch, we both needed to be in and out under an hour due other work commitments. All was spot on. The only issue we had, we couldn't finish all the food! And oh how yummy it was. Very reasonably priced, I'm going to go back that's for sure."
"This school has completely their failed students. When asked when my class would return after late/ last 2021 lockdown I was told not to return next year, no information weather my Cert 4 in Engineering would resume. My units were withdrawn and course removed from their website. This school has completely wasted the last 1.5 years of my life pushing back my goals and ambitions hoping we would return to class. I am looking forward to finishing my qualification at Swinburne which I should've done a long time ago instead of believing that their failures were because of covid in reality they never cared nor tried. I would highly NOT recommend this school and avoid at all costs."
"They don’t have any discipline especially when it comes to bullying, they do nothing"
"Great campus. Ample parking space. A heaven for students who want to study trades or construction courses."
"Very disorganised at the beginning of each Semester, gets better as Student numbers drop off."
