About the Business
Welcome to Christmas Hills Primary School, located at 1409 Eltham-Yarra Glen Road in the beautiful Christmas Hills area of Australia. As an establishment, point of interest, primary school, and school, we are committed to supporting our students to thrive through our progressive and individualized learning approach.
At Christmas Hills Primary School, we believe that how a child feels about themselves as a learner matters most in striving for positive learning outcomes. That's why everything we do is designed to underpin student self-esteem and agency, as well as student happiness, fun, and a sense of safety and connectedness. We are proud to be a state school delivering the curriculum in a child-centered way.
One of our unique features is our stunning natural environment, which we see as a third teacher. Situated in an idyllic bush setting, our school encourages play, exploration, and discovery. This natural backdrop enhances the learning experience for our students and provides them with a rich and inspiring environment to grow and learn.
To ensure that our learning can be individualized in the most meaningful way possible, we maintain small class sizes of between 10-15 students. While our children are assigned to specific year levels for enrollment purposes, we promote a sense of flexibility in learning. This means that a year 4 student may access material from year 3, 5, 6, or beyond if they feel ready, fostering a personalized and tailored learning experience for each child.
Research demonstrates the benefits of multi-age classrooms, which we embrace at Christmas Hills Primary School. Our children learn from one another academically, socially, and emotionally. Younger children aspire to the capabilities of the older children, while the older ones thrive as role models and school leaders. This collaborative and inclusive environment contributes to the holistic development of our students.
Social and emotional development is a priority at our school. We support our students in building skills in empathy and positive relationships, centered around our school values of CHIRPS – Caring, Honesty, Inquisitiveness, Respect, Persistence, and Sharing. These values were jointly decided by students, staff, and parents, and are embodied by our emblem, the blue wren.
We strive to ensure that every child at Christmas Hills Primary School feels safe, happy, and valued. Our highly inclusive school welcomes all children and families, providing an outstanding learning environment and an innovative learning program based on the latest research on how children learn best.
One of our trademarks is the "Learning Adventures" program, where children engage in outdoor activities, drama, craft, and other fun experiences. This program, often chosen and taught by the children themselves, fosters creativity, curiosity, and a love for learning.
Our school is conveniently located in the heart of incredible native bushland, making it a unique learning oasis. It can be easily reached in under 20 minutes from the surrounding communities of Christmas Hills, Eltham, Warrandyte, Kangaroo Ground, Research, Wattle Glen, Yarra Glen, and Lilydale.
As we embark on this educational journey together, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wurundjeri people, the traditional owners of this land, both past and present.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how our school can support your child's learning journey, our Principal is available to assist you. Join us at Christmas Hills Primary School and discover the joy of learning in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

"Love the vibe, the relationships between teachers amd kids, the care for the environment and the accepting nature of the school. Jackie, the principal is thoughtful, well organised and compassionate couldn't be happier"
"Disorganised principle, staff are incredibly rude and genuinely make me feel unwelcome every time I go there. Dress and appearance of principle is not appropriate. Not a ‘great’ experience."
