River Gum Primary School
About the Business
Welcome to River Gum Primary School, a vibrant and inclusive institution located in Hampton Park, between Dandenong and Cranbourne. As a primary school, we cater to a diverse range of students from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
At River Gum Primary School, we believe in empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey. Our dedicated teachers utilize their pedagogical knowledge to personalize learning experiences for each student. We place great value on community, building strong relationships, and fostering a culture of reflection.
In line with our commitment to providing comprehensive support for our students, we have partnered with Third Party OSHC Providers to offer an OSHC Service at our school. This initiative was made possible through a successful grant application under the DE OSHC Establishment Grants Initiative. Interested providers are invited to complete an EOI (Expression of Interest) form, which must be submitted by 4pm on Thursday, September 7th, 2023.
One of our flagship programs, BOOST (Building Opportunity Ownership Student agency and Teamwork), has had a tremendously positive impact on student engagement and learning. Students in Year 6 have the opportunity to choose from 36 electives throughout the year, participating in four each term. Additionally, they have daily English and Maths classes with a consistent teacher. This program is designed to prepare our Year 6 students for a smooth transition to high school, mirroring a high school timetable to alleviate any concerns or apprehensions they may have.
Our decision to focus on Year 6 students' transition to high school was driven by feedback from both the students themselves and the local high school. We discovered that many Year 6 students felt ill-prepared and anxious about the unknowns of high school. By offering a wide range of electives, we aim to provide genuine choice to our students and their families, allowing them to pursue subjects they are passionate about.
Child safety is of paramount importance at River Gum Primary School. We have a zero-tolerance policy for child abuse and are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where children's voices are heard. We pay particular attention to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, children from diverse backgrounds, and those with disabilities.
As a dedicated team of professionals, we set aspirational targets in learning and wellbeing, ensuring high expectations and collective efficacy. Our school motto, "Together We Can - for every child every day," drives our commitment to supporting our learners and helping them reach their full potential.
We pride ourselves on offering evidence-based learning pedagogies and teaching strategies, constantly adapting and differentiating our practices to foster continuous improvement. As a Professional Learning Community, we collaborate at high levels to plan, improve, implement, and evaluate our practices. We highly value feedback from our school community.
Our school vision, "At River Gum, our students own their learning and our teachers use their pedagogical knowledge to personalize learning. We value community relationships and reflection," encapsulates our commitment to student-centered education.
At River Gum Primary School, our culture and climate are essential to our success. We prioritize trust, creating a safe and orderly learning environment, shared leadership, and a focus on what truly matters.
Our core values of respect, equality, inclusion, and excellence guide our interactions and shape our school community. We strive to ensure equal access and opportunities for all students, embracing diversity and making everyone feel welcome.
We warmly invite you to consider River Gum Primary School for your child's learning journey. Together, we can create the best possible learning environment for your child. If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to call us at 9799 1216.
Lastly, in the spirit of reconciliation, River Gum Primary School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to their Elders, both past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
