"This has got to be one of the worst GP surgeries in the country. One of the receptionists is so rude that she made my elderly mother cry. Referrals to the memory assessment clinic never happened and when she was in extreme pain and was promised a call back from a doctor it never happened."

Whenever there has been cause for concern - we have always been able to get an urgent appointment. I also filled the online form wrong but the lady (whose name I don’t know I’m sorry) came from the back of the office to reassure me and that she had put my form in the correct place. "My 4-year old son ended up in hospital with Pneumonia because of Penrhyn Surgery’s unwillingness to see patients in person. When my son was ill earlier this summer, Penrhyn Surgery refused to see him in person, instead insisting that I arranged an online appointment for him. When we EVENTUALLY got a phone call from the practice nurse (not the doctor) I was asked to describe his symptoms and he was promptly prescribed antibiotics, without a physical examination ever taking place. The next day his lips turned blue and he was hospitalised with pneumonia. I was told by the doctors at the hospital that he had been prescribed the wrong antibiotics and that his oxygen levels were dangerously low. It was 5 days before he was well enough to come home. On another occasion, when trying to book an online appointment for myself, the e-Consult system said that I needed to see someone in person because the symptoms I had described were consistent with some quite serious conditions and, in order to be safe and get the correct treatment, I needed to speak with someone in person. In a glaring demonstration of incompetence, when I relayed this to the receptionist at the surgery, rather than arranging for me to see one of the practice doctors, face to face, I WAS TOLD TO ENTER DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS SO THAT I COULD GET AN ONLINE APPOINTMENT! These aren’t isolated incidents and it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously ill as a result of Penrhyn Surgery's refusal to see people. As many other reviewers have said, any attempt to speak to an actual human in the surgery results in getting diverted back to the online system, which is frequently unavailable. When it does work, and the surgery calls you back, they often only let the phone ring once or twice before they hang up, presumably happy to have ‘ticked the box’ by calling at all. Penrhyn’s current system of ‘triage’ - e-Consult - is a complete failure and the surgery’s persistence with it shows the doctors that work there are far more concerned with meeting appointment targets than caring for their patients."
