"I am, at the time of writing, a high school senior and a future Seaman in the United States Navy. I have the second highest ACT score at my school, South High School (32), first highest ASVAB score (95%) and have received nearly straight As in all of my advanced classes. I have taken the most rigorous course-load possible. I say this because I want to contrast this with my experience (and the shared experiences I will present as my own). I also want to make sure it is known that I am not intellectually stunted to any degree. I wish to warn parents of what their child may face at this school. This is not a tolerant school. If he/she is gay, autistic, socially awkward or whatever else, he will hate it here. If he/she is a bright individual, he/she will hate it here. It will become clear why this is necessary later. I wish to share this anecdote to highlight some problems. I live near the school itself, so often I am forced to confront the memories I have accumulated from there. I was often tormented by my peers. Name calling, physical abuse and other injustices were normal and occurred almost every day. Appallingly, the administration seems to care very little about these woes. In fact, out of the two years I spent at Buffett, a bully was punished only once, and that was for assault and vandalism! His crime? He stole my bike and ruined the chain and kickstand. The same day, after calling him out on it, he knocked me off the bike and started a fight. He got ONE lunch detention. The lightest sentence for any violation. I once got in three lunch detentions for sleeping in class, by the way. This clearly shows a trend: administration DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR CHILD. If he is having severe social issues at school, you will find no friends with the administration AT ALL. Buffett is also strictly authoritarian about classroom behavior. You are expected to sit many long hours in almost complete silence while absorbing information from the teacher. This information absorption process for anyone of reasonable intelligence is extremely boring. It is so intellectually numbing that all I could do is fall asleep. Of course, for that atrocious action, I was sent almost daily to "PAC" (detention). Comically, as if to demonstrate the intelligence of the average person at Buffett, the lunch room assigns seats so that people are not allowed to sit with friends, and you are not allowed to go to lunch without being walked there like cattle herded into a pen. To compound this already mindless environment with more mindlessness, questions are regarded with suspicion. Any person who has a genuine academic curiosity will be shut down almost immediately, even in advanced classes. The only people who garner any respect from teachers and administrators are the jocks, the athletes and the "popular" crowd. I wish not to sound clique, but administrative favoritism exists. I hope somebody will read this and be discouraged from going to this dreaded place. I am successful now, but Buffett made me feel hopeless, bored and sorrowful. It made me dread school for the longest time. Understand that if your child doesn't fit into the mold, he/she will never be happy here. Stay away."
"It's ok. I go here now and I'm in 8th grade. I like it, but I'll be happy to leave it. There were so really stupid people here last year. I'm glad they're gone."
"I remember when Colin did a sick nasty trickshot on Bots off the roof of Buffett in 7th grade one of the best days of my life will never forget even though when I tried I got a hit marker :( #10/10wouldvisitagain #RIPtoAronForGettingCyberBulliedByAJAntoir #peaceout"
"I go to Buffett, it is a good school but there are problems as there are at every middle school. Teachers often leave the classroom to visit or grab supplies for learning. During these 5-10 minute periods I was often bullied and no one did anything until my dad ended up calling the bully's parents, many students use profanity and do not respect other students. These students are likely to be a bad influence on your child, they will teach your kid tolerance and how to be ignorant of others that only talk smack. If your child is a high ability learner, this school has many advanced classes and coursework that will help your child excel. The school offers free office 365 accounts, Acheive 3000 accounts, and IXl is another offered program. Many other OPS schools also offer those programs also. The choice if you want to exopse your child to that enviorment is yours."
"Its where all the rich and snobby kids goes, to be honest... if you want your kid going to this school, and turning out as a brat, then let them go , but if you want a good educated school do not go. Because i highly think this school didnt teach me anything, and im a straight A studend, well was. i transfer out when i was in 6th grade, and went to a better school & graduated from Northwest on the top of the list for graduates"
