Thrifty Car Rental

"If I could leave a ZERO rating I would. On 10/9/23 I booked a car rental with Thrifty Car Rental using my Chase Sapphire Reserve Points. When picking up the car on 10/15/23, my husband verbally declined their offer for "Damage Waiver" and "Liability Insurance Supplement" again since we have insurance and AAA Roadside Assistance; we only verbally agreed to their Fuel Purchase Option. As before the representative asked for a signature, my husband signed, and gave them our credit card for any damages or incidentals. On 10/21/23 we returned the car almost 30 minutes early with a little gas in the tank since we agreed to the Fuel Purchase Option. On 10/22/23 our credit card was charged $400.15 to include: Damage Waiver ($209.94), Liability Insurance Supplement ($85.44), Fuel Purchase Option ($71.34), Concession Fee Recovery ($17.42), and Tax ($16.01). I again disputed the charges to no avail. I filed a dispute with Better Business Bureau and discovered I am one of many (thousands) who have been scammed by Thrifty. It's so unethical it's infuriating."

"There was an issue with the folding top on our first car, which we were able to exchange and the lady at the counter gave us a $50 credit and ASSURED us that we wouldn't need to return the exchange with a full tank of gas. 3 days after the rental was complete, I see a new $100 charge on my credit card for refueling! I wasn't even notified about the charge via email/text, so I would've missed it had I not checked my transaction history. Also- there is no way to talk to a human/agent and even if you do, they direct you to the Thrifty website which throws an error when you try to submit a feedback/complaint form. AVOID at all costs- the mental trauma later is not worth the savings that you get upfront."

"I’ve now rented a car from thrifty twice in Maui. Always get great service and good deals. I want to especially thank PJ at the front desk for being so welcoming and kind. He upgraded us to a sports car! Thank you thrifty!!!"

"They will rent you cars they don't have. When you go to the appropriate row it's completely empty. Then charge you more for cars they do have. Shouldn't the reservation I made guarantee a vehicle? There was a line of families waiting for returned cars to show up."

"I’ve rented from Thrifty before. It’s always good to reserve your car in advance, but recommend the day before to check if there are cheaper prices. I was able to get one a day before and it was $30 cheaper ($171 to $132). Made it to the counter a little earlier and there are usually 1-3 people working. I’m usually prepared so it’s an in and out deal. Since I got the “manager’s special” they offered a luxury car and told me to go to Row 10 but when I got there, there were no cars to be found. Myself and another guy waited for about 10-15 minutes for them to prepare a car. I was able to get a nice red mustang for a low price. I wish the workers would communicate with each other to make sure there were cars available."
