Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp

"So this is my second meal in a row having some shrimp, rice, and a sauce. This one was disappointed me like the last. This one was a bit more pricier as well costing$18 vs $17 I paid in Wakiki. The meal for me just lacked flavor. I ordered the tempura shrimp and the shrimp was so tender it just disintegrated into the tempura bread crumbs so I didn't taste any shrimp meat texture. And then a slice of pineapple and a sauce of sweet chili sauce came on the side. Add well as two cups of plain, unflavored white rice. So meh. Like no onion, no salt, pepper, nothing. Not sure if Ingredients are local or something, because if so that would justify the cost for the money. But yeah I was so so disappointed I couldn't even finish because there was like zero flavor. Happy to support local restaurants, but being a foodie, I know good food when I taste it. And unfortunately this wasn't it.. I wanted to like it though. :( Note: this place is CASH ONLY which is horrible. Yet the business next door that sells ice cream and coffee accepts card."

"The shrimp was really good, but that's all. It came with so much plain rice. I dislike cash only. A lot of places take card and just push the fees onto the customer, which is fine with me because at least I get the option."

"Stopped here as part of an Oahu island tour and ordered the spicy garlic shrimp. It was ok but nothing to write home about. The area was super crowded with a bunch of tour buses. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean which was appreciated."

"Over all excellent place to stop for Garlic Bitter Shrimp. Portion was filling. My timing was perfect, very short wait. Plenty of parking available, no line however it was just my mid afternoon timing that created this situation. Portion was filling, just the right size. No credit cards-cash only so be prepared especially if you have a large family."

"My family and I spent 4 days in O'ahu, and we were dying to find some authentic, tasty seafood. Our last day we drove through the North Shore, and stopped in Kahuku around sunset. Bright red lights lit the front, with a few lingering customers. We were lucky to find that they were open for just another 30 minutes! Thankfully, we were still able to order. We chose the Butter Garlic, and Hot Garlic Shrimp plates. The shrimp were MASSIVE, clean, and most importantly delicious. The plate comes with two huge scoops of rice with fine chopped garlic, and a slice of pineapple - just what the doctor ordered. Once we were done, we ordered a classic Dole Whip ice cream for the road. Super creamy, tart, and sweet. I was bittersweet to find this spot on our last day, but it made it that more special, and ultimately it was the best meal we had on the island. If we found it the first day, I'm sure we'd have been back each day!"
