"FOA, this is a cash only salon and she did NOT mention that upfront. I pulled out my card at the end and asked if I could also tip with my card, and she pointed to a paper print-out sign with an attitude like businesses not accepting cards is a common practice in 2022. It's not. It's super strange. There is no ATM either. You have to go a few blocks down to a bank to pull out cash. The shop itself is small but not cramped, and it's run by one woman who is also the only nail tech presently. Her station was tidy but not immaculate. There was plexiglass between us. The chair was comfortable. As far as her technique, the shape/sculpting of the acrylic nails was terrific. They weren't too thin or too thick, and the apex was positioned correctly. She worked quickly yet there was nothing sloppy about the acrylic work or about the paint. She used fresh and quality product. She did not push/trim my cuticles though, nor did she apply cuticle oil afterward. However. The conversation she was forcing was the most intrusive series of -- not even questions, but they were personal and inaccurate assumptions -- "You hide your body too much" because I was wearing a t-shirt and pants. "You're so young, you need to wear more colors" because my outfit was black. "You're smart but you're too picky" because I'm 35 and unmarried. In spite of her cringe-worthy personal critiques and incessant chatter, I really did think her work was impeccable and worth tolerating her weirdly rude comments. I decided that I would visit again because it's a small town, and there aren't many options. She asked that I bring pictures next time, so I did. I showed her 2 different pictures: one set of ombre stiletto-shaped nails, one set of cat eye coffin-shaped nails. The fist inspo pic, she told me she couldn't do the ombre w/ tips that glow in the dark, although she had told me on the first visit that she was the only nail tech in Nevada who can do the ombre effect and that she has like 22 different glow in the dark colors to choose from. And the second inspo pic, she told me that the cat eye nails take a lot of work. Seriously? The cat eye effect using the magnets is what she did on my nails the first visit, and it's not complicated. Okay, so you can't do what you told me you could do, and what you did before is too much work. Got it. The work she did the first time was great when I let her decide what to do, so give her a chance if you want, but maybe bring some earbuds for music and expect that she'll want to pick out what she does to your nails herself."
