"Jason and crew are WONDERFUL. If you want some killer custom materials (their Ostrich plumes are the BEST), custom sink tips, or top notch tying advice, go visit the Portland Fly Shop. The entire staff here is friendly, and quite knowledgable on local waters. Their advice for steelhead fisheries is particularly strong, as Jason has been a long-time guide in SW Washington and he knows our regional rivers better than most. They also aren't elitists, and they make anyone feel welcome. Also... bonus points for being open on Sunday. That can be a lifesaver when you're prepping for a trip and you need last minute gear or materials to tie up some bugs. Only con... the parking lot sucks if you drive something bigger than a Prius. Not surprising for being in NW Portland. I personally prefer to park my truck on the street (free parking, but it's not always easily available), so if you don't like a tight, busy parking lot, that's your best route."

"Good selection of flies, fly tying materials, gear, and apparel. What makes this shop shine is the owner and staff. Most fly shops I have been to always have a sort of “I’m better than you” vibe among staff. I’ve never felt this at Portland Fly Shop. Despite what some of the older bad reviews say, I’ve never experienced pretentiousness here, and I’ve been going here since 2018. Staff are always willing to talk about rivers and provide good tips. I don’t expect fly shops to give out their key spots ever, but many times someone working there has talked my ear off about how to fish a certain river I’m heading to and has helped me get on some fish. Definitely my favorite shop in the Portland area."
"These guys were great!! Went in and spent an hour with them having zero fly fishing experience. They answered all my stupid questions and set me up with the bare minimum to get started. Would have spent a lot more if I wasn't getting on a plane the next night. They made so the other fly fishermen on the Clackamas River didn't laugh me out of the water on a Sunday morning. Would have loved to take one or two of their classes but time made it not feasible."
