Backesto Park, located in North San Jose, California, is a historic park that has been a beloved community gathering place for over 75 years. Named after John Pierre Backesto, a respected physician from the nineteenth century, the park was established in 1890 thanks to a generous donation from his widow, Anne Backesto.

One of the park's most iconic features is its beautiful mosaic fountain adorned with ceramic tiles, which dates back to 1922 and is considered the oldest Solon & Schemmel structure still in existence.

"Park is great! Always in use. Losers who don’t think rules apply to them let their dogs off leash. And there is this wasted unused section in the middle. Was bocci courts that the city has abandoned. Despite the city’s lack of maintenance this park thrives"
"Good size park for many functions. The soccer field is set up for team competitions. A lot of people walk their dogs around the park."
"I used to love this park, but it appears to have gone downhill. Just went to the bathroom and saw a massive pile of human excrement on the floor in one of the stalls (and spent the next few minutes dry heaving.) I suppose I’m glad the individual was able to relieve themselves because it was a LOT (didn’t realize a human body could retain so much fecal matter), but obviously this speaks to the park’s overall condition and level of cleanliness. There are better parks to bring your kids to- I’ll leave it at that."
"Great open park with a shady tree line at the edge and picnic and bbq areas. There is one big bbq pit that is great for bigger events. The playground structures are also very recently renewed so there is a great space for smaller kids. The restroom is well maintained and cleaned daily. Plenty of waste bins"
