About the Business

The Austin VA Vet Center is a government institution located in Austin, Texas, United States. We offer confidential help for eligible Veterans, service members, and their families at no cost in a non-medical setting. Our services include counseling for needs such as depression, PTSD, and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma. For clinical support, please contact the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic or the Waco VA Regional Office.

Our Vet Center provides individual and group counseling, as well as referral services to appropriate resources in the community. We offer support for issues such as grief, PTSD, depression, anger, trauma, substance abuse, and more. We can also help Veterans transitioning to civilian life with educational and career counseling.

Our staff is trained to provide compassionate support for those in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts. We offer a safe and comfortable environment for services, with both male and female counselors available. We also host Veteran-centered activities and outings to facilitate connection and community.

If you are a first-time visitor, walk-in during office hours or give us a call to see how we can help. We do not require registration for care at the VA Hospital or a service-connected disability to receive Vet Center services. Our goal is to provide local support to those who have served and their families.

"I had one good counselor there, but she left. This place may work for you if you’re a dude. They were very rude the first time I arrived without a mask (summer 2022, after most places became mask free) but then every time I’d show up for an appointment 10+ guys would come out of group not wearing masks, including the counselors. Different rules for different people. Old. Stuck in old ways."

"With it the right Therapist healing takes place. I am here to defend the therapists who work in this facility Yes,it's very hard, sometimes slow and non existent in moving forward, but if one sticks with the therapist, even when you disagree, healing takes place,if one let's it occur. The hardest thing about therapy is letting someone in,and believing they are on your side. Every single therapist in this facility deserves a raise. They go above and beyond."

"Very rude staff, woman named Lisa was “supposed” to be helping a vet, and was just yelling at him. I witnessed her unprofessional behavior over the phone, she would not let him get a word in and concluded with “I can see we are not going to work together”, and hung up!! He was trying to ask a question and she REFUSED to let him. How is this helping the veterans? Why is she even an employee when she’s clearly rude, and disrespectful. Your job is to help the veterans not belittle, insult, and yell at, which is ALL she did over the phone. Will be recording all VA affiliated phone calls on this end as well, so next time y’all can hear it for yourselves. I gave one star to be able to give my review, in reality the service is all the way negative."

"Vet Center counselors and groups are really really helpful. Vet Center does not base their care on how much money you make so the Reviewer below must be talking about some other office. Here are the services I am aware of and have sat in on: Individual Counseling Relationship Management. Mindfullness TaiChi Yoga Anger Management OIF/OEF Group They also have a full time DAV representative officed here that can help with VA Claims. This is a wonderful organization, location and gem of resources."

"These people are great. I accidentally ended up here while looking for the bigger Austin VA Outpatient Clinic. But I'm very glad I did they offer a lot of services for veterans from counseling for PTSD, Mental Health and provide a lot of resources for finding jobs and generally in improving the life of a veteran. They're pretty knowledgeable and on things that they didn't know about such as the parenting classes that I was looking for they went and did the research while I was there and came back out and provided me with the information that I needed. Above and beyond their job description my opinion I say thanks to them and definitely recommend other vets go there when in need."
