Texas Oncology-Brownsville

"I have been attending TX Oncology Brownsville since March 2021 which is almost two years now. I am honestly surprised there are bad reviews here. My doctor is Dr. Marcelo Boek and he is a great doctor. I will admit he is very punctual with time which I get when you have to see a lot of patients but I have never had a problem with him or with the staff since my diagnosis. Mrs. Carmen has been the only receptionist who still remains there after almost two years since I started attending here for my treatment. That alone says a lot about her work ethic. She does greet you because in my countlesss visits she has been nothing but courteous to me as have the other front desk ladies. I have also seen them be courteous to many other patients. The schedulers are nice ladies too and just doing their job. If you get scheduled at a time that does not work for you then call the front desk and the ladies will help you with that as they have helped me in multiple occassions. The best part of this place are the nurses. I cannot speak highly enough of Angie, Silvia, and Damaris. Mrs. Angie saved my life on my first chemoetherapy session ever!! I was having a reaction to last chemo med of my treatment and with my luck, I had a severe allergic reaction so bad I felt my throat was starting to close and I yelled to Angie and she acted quickly along with Mrs. Silvia and another nurse (cant remember who it was at the time). Anyways, within seconds, I felt so much better. I firmly believe if you ask anyone who has had a treatment here, they will tell you that these nurses are compassionate and wonderful people and amazing at their job! Expect some wait time as any other medical practice but overall, this place is excellent. Everyone is nice and I mean everyone, staff, nurses, doctors, the maintenance worker, and the pharmacy techs. This place is worth it give it a chance. After 22 long months battling breast cancer, I am finally healed and remission, thanks to God and with the help of the doctors and nurses and the wonderful people who work here. I love that it is close to home and I don't have to travel hours to get treatment elsewhere. I still continue to to visit TX Oncology as now I am one preventitive treatment so that my cancer does not return."

"They have very deceitful practices. They told my mother that the co-pay would be certain amount. And then twice after, asked for additional money. In the end, the final amount was close to $500 over the original amount. We tried to reason with them, but they were completely unwilling to own up to their mistake. They kept saying my mom signed the contract, but she's not a lawyer and relied on what they said the final amount would be. Do not come here."

"This place is terrible. I cant believe this is the only option folks have to get serious medical attention. The reception and schedukers are the absolute worst. If you want a cold and heartless reception Carmen Cuellar delivers that everytime. How hard is it to say good morning and how can I help you. Apparently it's easier to ignore and treat people like cattle versus showing a bit of compassion and empathy."

"I had both parents diagnosed with cancer one in the 90s whom I was told to start making funeral arrangements. I swore it could not take my dad we started seeing doctor treelo an Dr. Aggressive 3yrs later on Christmas eve they gave me a present I will never forget he was cancer free we spent another 20 yes and I truly thank the doctors. In 2015 my mother was diagnosed with cancer also the clinic had changed by then and she passed months later. I only write this letter to speak the same words Itold my dad stay strong and don't lose faith in your self together we are stronger than any disease."

"Staff is rude and apprehensive on the phone. Doctor there was also rude and dismissive during appointments. Showed no compassion, had bad bedside manner, did not try to establish rapport. Ignored family members present. Kept using the excuse “that’s just how cancer is” without making an effort to minimize symptoms such as nausea, vomiting. Did nothing as he saw a cancer patient develop signs of severe dehydration over the course of three visits. No lab work. Did not even check patients eyes while they were very yellow. Did a horrible job of explaining. Would hardly look at the patients direction while speaking. Seem bother when asked questions. I can’t even imagine what he might’ve done to other patients please consider another clinic or make sure to stay clear of that doctor. He makes the whole clinic look bad."
