"After two years of contemplating a coffee plant tattoo, I came across the artwork of Annie Cogdal (@anniecogdaltattoo) at The Burnt Tiger and instinctively felt that she was the right artist to work with. Her renditions of botanicals immediately caught my eye for their detail and clarity. Upon emailing her, I learned that her professionalism extends beyond her artwork into every interaction she has with her clients; she responds quickly, is always honest and straightforward, and is also warm and encouraging – all attributes that helped to calm the nerves of a first timer like myself. My initial consultation with her affirmed my initial impressions; Annie’s passion for her work came shining through in our conversation. She was amazing during the entire process of looking at artwork and photographs together, and she was so patient during the process of stencil placement. In the end, we chose a slightly more unusual placement on my arm in response to what I wanted to see, and she generously altered her design to make the most of the placement. We completed the tattoo over two sessions at The Burnt Tiger, and both experiences were wonderful. Annie’s warm personality and willingness to engage in conversation put me at ease and quelled any anxiety I had over getting such a large first tattoo. In addition, the whole staff at The Burnt Tiger exude positivity (in addition to all being phenomenal artists themselves). It was really fun to hear the banter between all the artists as they all worked; I especially noticed how Al Broordie, the owner, took the time and effort to check in on all his artists to see how they were doing, as well as engage in friendly conversation with each client. This all adds up to an environment that would lift the mood of anyone who enters the shop. The tattoo ended up looking even better than I could ever have imagined. Annie was very helpful and clear about the aftercare process, and with her advice, my tattoo healed quickly and easily without any complications. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to go work with Annie, or any of the artists at The Burnt Tiger. Their parlor is a gem in the city of Chicago and I feel so lucky to have been able to go there for my first (and hopefully not last!) tattoo experience."
