McKendree Metro Rec Plex

"Place is filthy and had some items stolen out of a locker yesterday that did not latch when i closed it. A lot of the lockers close and appear locked but when you pull on them they just open, even if you place a pad lock. Was missing some items from my bag when i was done working out. Also place is disgusting. Early morning hours and trash is already overflowing everywhere, on the floor, in the stalls etc?? What a joke. Weight room is un clean with rust on everything. Have been a member almost a year and been in at various times and have yet to see a single person ever cleaning. Then walked up to front desk yesterday to ask about it and the young child on his phone did not even look up at me until I had to say excuse me to get him off his phone. What are you even paying them for? Just leave the front desk empty, who cares. Management obviously does not care about this place."

"This place has really fallen off on the ice rink side over the years. Which is unfortunate given the need for an expensive membership to access some ice rink activities. Coupled with the fact that sports like hockey are already expensive, the Metrorecplex simply isn’t worth spending your money on. - Trash laying around some days as if no one bothered to clean up. - The ice is often poorly maintained, an uneven slush or hardly frozen on some occasions. - Removal of stick and puck for non-members, making it difficult for friends who don’t have a membership. - The pools often are poorly maintained as well. Unclean or poor pH balance make swimming unpleasant. - Gym equipment that is poorly maintained and some show signs of rust. There are some positives. The ice staff has been nice through and through. Mostly younger workers, they are nothing but kind and helpful. And the place is close to O’Fallon and the AFB. Overall, I wouldn’t say this place is worth the huge amount they ask for in terms of membership. There’s better rinks out there for the ice side, better gyms for fitness, and the pools certainly do not make up for their shortcomings. You could pay less for better experiences in the area."

"I love the hockey coaches and a lot of the staff that I've met, but the rink is a disaster. For a sport that we spend a crazy amount of money on, I just expect better ice, better management of ice time, and cleaner locker rooms. It seems like it's way too often that sessions are canceled due to issues with the ice or scheduling mess ups. The junior rink has very limited seating with an awful view and glass that sometimes fogs up so bad you can't see, and they close the nicer rink that has good seating all summer. I REALLY wanna see them get it together and succeed long term- hopefully they do."

"This facility has tons of potential but suffers from exceptionally poor management. Of the 2 dozen or so cardio machines upstairs only 2 currently work. All of the weights and bars in the weight room are rusted from humidity and not maintained. The pool has frequent issues with chemicals, noise and standard cleanliness."

"The facility has the potential to be really great, but it is always filthy. All one has to do is see clumps of hair all over the showers and bathroom floors and it's so disgusting. The recreational pools are starting to look really dirty and uncared for and there are often problems with the pool temperatures. I have heard there is also a similar temperature issue with the ice rinks as well. The owners should either step up to caring for the place and the equipment as they have a little treasure there, or sell it to someone who can maintain it. Staff is nice though."
