Church's Texas Chicken

"I grew up in the Los Angeles area. I remember eating Church's chicken back in the 1980s and early 90s. Then I moved to the Pacific Northwest and haven't eaten at a Church's in about 31 years. One of the worst things about getting older is that you remember what food tasted like. Back before steroid fed chickens and genetically modified crops. Fast forward to 2024. I am in Brookshire, Texas, and there's a Church's Texas chicken right up the street from my hotel. Order the 3 piece meal that came with aside of Mac and cheese and a biscuit. I also ordered a frosted biscuit, a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried okra. I don't think that they would purposely change a winning fried chicken recipe. Maybe it is the type of chickens they're using now. Or maybe there are new owners that have decided to tarnish the good name of Church's. Whatever the case is, the fried chicken I ordered did not taste like the Church's I remember eating. The chicken was dry and flavorless. All of the flavor was in the crust, and it wasn't the right flavor. Mac and cheese wasn't good. The mash potatoes tasted like those instant mashed potatoes you buy in a box. And I could not recognize the flavor of church's gravy. The okra was okay. And I have never had a frosted biscuit. It was pretty good. The strawberries soda and jalapeño were just as delicious as I remember. I felt sad. Because I went looking for a trip down memory lane. But found out that memory lane had been bulldozed."

"I ordered a prepaid pick-up order for pick-up at 4:45 pm. I arrived at 4:45 pm and found that the staff had not started fulfilling my order. They worked on drive thru orders made after I arrived before completing my order. It took them 30 minutes to complete my order which only consisted of three items. The macaroni and cheese was inedible (we dumped it down the disposal). The restaurant was not very clean. The staff were extremely unorganized. I don’t think we will go back."

"I'm a trucker from Colorado and love the chicken. The service was great. Well I'm back and this time it suck. The worker didn't know what she was talking about. I asked for salt and she said they didn't have any and I saw they did. She didn't know what I could buy. So when I got my order I just left. I would say don't go there."

"The lady was very rude on the drive-thru. She keep telling me how busy she was. There was 2 people in the lobby and I was the only drive-thru customer. Don't come here"

"It says they close at 10 pm. I was there at 8 pm and they already said they were out of side dishes. I’m pretty sure they didn’t want to cook any more because this is the 3rd time this has happened to me for dinner. They still had to hours before closing!!!!"
