"It’s Black Restaurant Week through this Sunday, March 3. We wanted to show our support so I looked at the list of participating restaurants. Have known about @thepurplepigbbq but hadn’t visited to try it out until today for dinner. Not only is this a black-owned restaurant, but it’s also a veteran-owned business. Demetric and Cherise Herron are both Army Veterans, who served our country. Made me even happier that we chose to stop by. It was also great to see that there was quite a crowd on a Friday night. Cherise took our order at the counter and checked on us to make sure we’re enjoying the food. The Pork Rib Tip Plate is the featured dish for the restaurant week, where $1 is donated to the Lemonade Circle. We ordered that along with half pound of Chopped Brisket, a side of creamed corn, cole slaw, and potato salad. Hubby was excited for the huge Turkey Leg. We all tried everything and it was great tasting food. Hubby tried the hot BBQ sauce while I tried both the mild and sweet. Both were good but I preferred the sweet. Loved all the sides and the chopped brisket was so tender. Outstanding and highly recommended!"

"This Black-Owned, Veteran Owned Business received what I feel was a bigoted review that made the local newspaper. I came over to try the food myself. Review forthcoming, but I can say off the top that their employees were properly attired, courteous and the customer service was great. The place is clean, a reallly nice patio with umbrellas on the tables. They didn’t have the carrot cake I wanted, so I tried the cobbler. There was some R&B background music, no derogatory sounding music AT ALL! I’ve had Memphis BBQ, Carolina BBQ, Kansas City BBQ and Texas BBQ and in my taste buds opinion Texas BBQ ranks last. So the bigot who claimed some kind of exceptionalism about “Texas BBQ” has probably NEVER left Texas and wouldn’t know good BBQ if it slapped him in the face. I digress. Now for the food at Purple Pig. First, I asked for the sauce on the side, as you can see the sauce is already on the meat. I like to taste the seasoning before adding sauce if I add it at all. I told the young lady I wanted it on the side. But since they put it on there, it tasted like a vinegar based sauce, kinda like you get in North Carolina. It wasn’t bad but I didn’t get to taste the meat the way I wanted. The potato salad didn’t have the consistency that I like, but they aren’t just cooking for me, plus other than that it was good. The green beans were green beans. I had the rib tip dinner. The meat was very tender. The Peach Cobbler was straight fire, reminded me of my Moms. I’ll go back because I gotta taste the meat without the sauce. Everything on the menu is under $20. Oh and they offer a military/first responder discount."
