Black Bear Diner San Antonio City Base

"Black Bear Diner is a wonderful place to bring the family and indulge in some great tasting breakfast and lunch plates. We had a party of 7, so we waited nearly an hour for a table, but it was worth it. The pancakes are the size of 9 inch plates, and the biscuits are larger than twinkees. Our food came out hot and tasty. Even though there was a wait, it did not feel crowded inside the restaurant. As we stared at the orders from other guests, all the servings looked large. When you see 2 pancakes in the menu, know it's like 5 pancakes in any other restaurant. Like I mentioned, the wait was quite long next time. I'll make sure to call ahead."

"I love how this place is set up with branded items for sale from slippers to bags of coffee. The service here is amazing. Friendly staff, made plenty of good suggestions, and did I mention friendly. The food is rather pedestrian. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing presentation of food, and it wasn't as tasty as one would imagine. I had the turkey dinner, and the turkey was well sliced but lacked flavor. The gravy was all over the place, and the mashed potatoes were a good attempt but lacked the creaminess of homemade with the large chunks or parboiled potatoes. The greanbeans were good with a good bacon flavor."

"A few days before going my buddy went to a location in CA and raved about it! He told us about the SA locations, so we decided to try it. Walking in the place was loud and busy, a fun atmosphere! We were greeted right away and taken to our table. The waitress arrived a few minutes later to take our drink orders and returned with them quickly. We did not have our food picked by then so asked for a few more minutes... Those few minutes were like 10-12 minutes, we ordered our food and waited another 20 minutes to receive it. I ordered the CFS breakfast with grits. The CFS was like straight out of a freezer package from Costco or something, the grits I had were a bit watery, very lumpy and just not good... but a humongous portion! The eggs were good and the biscuit was good with some jam. My wife ordered the 1 egg plate with bacon. The eggs were good and cooked to her liking, the has browns were really good, crispy on the outside an tender on the inside. She did upgrade to the waffle from the biscuit and it was quite disappointing... Very dense and little flavor. Overall nice place but service and food are lacking IMO... Don't think we'll be dining there again anytime soon."

"Went for my birthday waffle. Out waiter was great. Answered questions and was very informative and sociable. New the menu. However there was another waitress we witnessed at a table that was by us. Ashley.She also handled her table well. It was a family of five. They left a mess. However her perfessional service never swayed. I would have not been to happy myself. Definitely had to give her props. She was nice. Anyway it was an overall good experience. We went about 2:30 and the wait was maybe 15min."
