"There are plenty of well known "Tortillerias" around town that also feature Tamale and Barbacoa on their menu. I'm not going to bother naming them, but I will categorilly state that Del Rio is now my go to place for "Barbacoa, Tortilla, & Tamale" fix! The "Special" barbacoa is essentially the "All Meat" barbacoa for the purist that prefers less fat in their barbacoa. I consider myself an "All Meat" purist, and I can say that this is one delicious barbacoa! And priced for less than $12, you won't find a better tasting barbacoa at this price. The tamales are also reasonably priced for less than $12 a dozen. However, these tamales are on the smaller size compared to other tamales. However, what they lack in "volume" is more than made up in the superb "quality" of the tamales. The tamales are delicious AND the only tamales that consistently slide out the husk with no need to use any utensil to slide them out of their husk. The tortillas are also one of the best I've sampled. Both corn and flour also are incredibly easy to reheat. Be warned, these tortillas have no preservatives and must be refrigerated in order to store them once you decide to store them. The only criticism is that this is a "Tortilleria" and not a restaurant. No dining is provided and you can only order your food to go. This is one of those establishments where they will sell out of their products and you need to make an effort to arrive early in order to purchase what you want. The lines do move quickly, thanks to the 5 cashiers they have to process your order. Despite their high volume, the staff are courteous and helpful, letting you know of any deals that may save you money. I live near the Medical Center, in the NW side of town. But I now drive across town to this wonderful "Southside" hole in the wall to get my weekly fix of Tamales, Barbacoa, and Tortillas for the week. I highly recommend this Tortilleria. You may become an enthusiastic customer like me! Definitely, a 5 Star rating!"

"The tamales are delicious and I will definitely be back. The line was long, but they got us in and out quickly. I only suggest checking your order before you leave. They repeated my order correctly, but when I got home, they gave me regular chicken tamales and not chicken jalapeño."

"Del Rio tortillas have been a staple in my home. I am a weekly frequent buyer of barbacoa, tamales & 2+ 50count tortillas lately every pack is not counted properly. I’ve let it slide. But this Last Sunday I bought 6 packs of 50 tortillas. They were horribly made, spots had torn edges like someone ripped a piece off the edge, others where half still fat dough and half ready, some where just out right ugly crooked or squished that i couldn’t fix, a few where half the normal size, straight edge/half rounded. The quality no longer is there and the prices no longer reflect the value. Prices going up quality going down. We wait in long lines for what once was a great product that I continually provide free word of mouth advertisement for. Honestly the tortillas looked like a child had made them. Very disappointed in the lack of quality yall have for your products and instead inflating your prices. I’ve attached a picture some of the ones we bought on Sunday, I would be attaching tons of pictures of all the badly made ones but i think one is enough to prove my point. I always separate each tortilla and count them. Needless to say 3 out of the 6 packs had tortillas missing. 5 tortillas missing in one pack, 3 tortillas missing in another and 2 in another. I double count because I separate into ziplocks to preserve them better. Approximately at least 50 tortillas were horribly made. I also separated those out because I wont be able to use them as tacos. I spent $100 this day in total and it wasn’t worth it. Improve your quality, provide a discount for multiple quantities. Just like I spread good advertisement in my facebook groups for restaurants and san antonio travelers/visitors I can very easily began to mention subpar service and point them in a different direction. I’ve never had a problem with staff, all are friendly and I never complain about the lines and dont expect to be rushed product just to get to the next customer. Do better before you lose this 20+ year customer and the 60+ Latino family she has."

"Always love the tamales. Pork is the best. Must remember to get more salsa. Enjoy the barbacoda with corn tortillas. Unfortunately, they ran out, so i had to do without. Abundant of flour so those that can have flour, enjoy. Prices are fair as well, given the economy."
