"Delicious steaks and BBQ in a cozy, rustic setting."

"Came in today for lunch for the first time ever. We googled BBQ joints in the nearby area and settled on Mesquites Pit. We figured with a name like that they’d have some decent food. The building is old but it has its charm. Wooden panels line the walls and taxidermy animals were scattered about. Looked like a museum inside with all the neat trinkets all the walls. I didn’t catch his name but our waiter was wonderful. He was friendly, attentive and answered questions I had about the menu. Service was great. We ordered their brisket and sausage plates that were a lunch special and I ordered two premium sides as my sides (which are $1.99 each). Salad was good, ranch tasted fine even though it jiggled. The brisket and sausage were a huge miss. Do NOT come here for BBQ. Maybe I’m a little biased because I smoke meat and enjoy a good BBQ but the brisket here was lacking in any flavor. Upon arriving we didn’t smell any wood burning or anything indicating we were going to be eating BBQ. The brisket was super tender but not in a good way. Looked and tasted like bland pot roast. I had to put salt on everything, even the veggies. Nothing had flavor. The sausage had a smokey taste but that’s because they served precooked presmoked sausage. The sausage was a little squishy. My husband got Cole slaw and potato salad, both were warm, not cold. We looked around and noticed EVERY TABLE and I mean every single table had adults well over 50 years of age and let’s face it, you lose your taste buds at about that age based on experience at other restaurants that lacked flavor. We had high hopes but unfortunately won’t be returning. Not angry about trying this joint out but still longing for decent BBQ in the area."

"We love coming here! The tables are a little too small in our opinion, but it's a small inconvenience of juggling and shifting plates for good food and a fun atmosphere. My kids love looking at all of their rustic decor. At our last visit the hostess was unwilling to accommodate our seating request, but the first waitress who walked by asked if she could help and indeed she moved us to a more suitable location. We really love the kids meals. They are very reasonably priced and include a ton of food. My bottomless pit son is always actually full when we leave and that's the best! My favorite thing to get is the grilled shrimp skewer - succulent and grilled to perfection!"

"Great Texas fare. If you want to experience how Texans love their food- this is it. The spacious, airy, “feel comfortable at home” the way Texans like it- atmosphere (love the stone fireplace that takes up a two sided wall) to friendly service, this makes for a satisfying meal out that sends you home happy with a full stomach. Pictured is the chicken fried steak option that is exactly what you want and expect for a comfort meal. Young Texas scurrying about (and working hard) to make sure you enjoy the food to the thirst quenching and pleasurable sweet tea- you can’t go wrong. Thank you Mesquite Pit for hot, savory bites that would take hours in the kitchen to make. Everything was just right!"

"The waitress was amazing, I would take a sip of water, look over and it had been refilled. Love that. Food was ok… but kind of a shame to serve that as “BBQ” in this great state of Texas. I would go for the service, I wouldn’t expect much from the food. However it is really beautiful decor inside the restaurant."
