I believe Annette would have been fine for family counseling but she should have sent me to a specialist for abuse counseling. “Women in abusive situations (even just physiological abuse) should not seek couples counseling. Couples counseling is designed for problems that are mutual.” Abuse is not mutual. Read “Why does he do that?” By Lundy Bancroft if you are unsure if your marriage is considered abusive. Couples counseling only made my situation worse at home."
