Sylvan Learning of Rockford

"My son has attended sylvan since approximately July of this year. During the summer he was attending two 2 hour sessions a week and when school started he went 1 hr a week. When I met with the director to get my son signed up I was promised many things that never happened. There was never any follow up or follow through and do not beleive them when they say you will get your money back if you are dissatisfied with the outcome. I do have some understanding as they did go through a director (or whatever the title it) during our time, but to me no excuse for the amount of money we spent. They assessed my son and gave me the plans on how many hours they felt he needed. I met with the new director and his boss towards the end of my sons 45 hours and asked them to reach out to his teacher (as promised when we signed up) and that I wanted my son reassed with the test that was originally given as I wanted to see his progress as I was already questioning it at that time. Again promises made. We had set another appointment, I showed up.... the director had no idea I was coming and when I reminded him we had made a follow up appointment he eventually checked his calendar confirming that we did have an appointment. They did not reach back out to the teacher, they did not reasses my son, but immediately started talking about getting him setup for more tutoring and more money. Last night we showed up for his last meeting with them and the doors were locked no one was there. When I called sylvan to find out what was going on they were aware that the door had been locked accidently and so the teachers could not get in the building, but didn't inform anyone. My opinion they are disorganized do not follow up or follow through with promises made and will do whatever to get around showing that your child truly made progress when it is questioned."

We have continued to work with them after she went back to on-site school because we have found them so helpful. The tutors have all been wonderful to work with, we get regular feedback, and sessions are easy to schedule and reschedule when needed. The study skills lessons have been really helpful! We've been very happy with the academic support and confidence that it's given our daughter in school. "Our daughter has struggled to stay up to grade level in math and the pandemic and virtual school has increased the gap. The school was unable to provide tutoring help so we went to Sylvan. We have been thrilled with the help that has been given each week. The tutors are all wonderful and our daughter looks forward to going ( maybe because she earned rewards for working hard and great prizes). I have monthly meetings to discuss her progress and they work with her teacher in school directly to gain additional insight. I would absolutely recommend Sylvan if Rockford to any parent that has a struggling child."
