"Late Winter 2023 Wind storms wrought havoc on the roof of our 180 year old farmhouse. I called and left messages with multiple area roofing companies to get emergency tarping in place before the next round of rain. Jake with JSL Home Repair called me back within 15 minutes of my call. He had a crew at my house within 2 hours of our conversation. The other companies never even returned my call! JSL Home Repair dealt directly with our insurance company for us and were onsite during the insurance inspection. It could not have been a smoother process. They scheduled our roof installation within a few days of getting the insurance approval. The crew did a fantastic job on our roof which has several different pitches. I was greatly impressed with the speed of service and the quality of work. The roof looks great and I no longer worry when the wind blows or a big rain is coming"

"Would not recommend. They started out great but went downhill as the project progressed. Long list of issues so I'll bullet point for ease of reading. • Installed cheap coated wallboards instead of actual shower surround that went with the pan they installed. Took months to get it corrected. Had to pay a different contractor to finish as JSL left it sitting un-mudded for weeks with no calls or emails about scheduling to finish. They only responded after I emailed them telling them I had to hire someone else. • Could not/would not provide a cost breakdown of the contract either before or after work completed. Due to time constraints and my living conditions, I had to get the work started ASAP so went ahead hoping I could get the breakdown at a later date. Never did. They did send me something but it was not applicable to what I requested. • Did not provide bathroom facilities for workers. My private bathroom became a public toilet for multiple workers to use over several days. • Ordered the wrong sized windows without specifically requested window stoppers. Took longer to install and I had to miss work and give up days off to allow for corrective work to be done. • Some outlets are crooked and won’t take covers and are the wrong type. Overall the workers were all polite and good-natured so no issues there. The work is hit–or-miss on quality. So far the plumbing and drywall parts seem fine. Waiting to have the electric inspected so can update later if more issues arise. I wouldn’t recommend JSL due to the previously listed issues as well as for the hassle I dealt with just trying to get a cost breakdown so I could see how they came up with the projects costs and where the money actually went. Multiple emails back and forth trying to get this basic information that should have been easy for them to provide, but for some reason wasn’t. I prefer to support local business, but only if that business is well-managed and does quality work on a professional level. JSL, sadly, fails in these areas. UPDATED RESPONSE TO JSL: I asked for a proper shower, you picked cheap wall board instead of the actual surround. This is not what was discussed at the signing of the contract. You did not reach out to finish the shower. It took months for you to even send someone out to put in the proper surround that should have been installed the first time, then nothing from you for over 3 weeks so I found someone else to do it. I have schedules to keep as well. I was always available via text, phone, and email. You did not reach out. Your mistakes cost me money and time. The deductions were your own fault, not mine. The quickbooks info was not what I asked for. It did not show what the money was spent on and the entries were unclear as I don't know your system or categories. The data is for my records. The fact that one of the things I use it for is to price future jobs is irrelevant. I still have a right to know where my money went. The carpet was delayed in the upstairs due to an unforeseen issue that required the floors to be opened up. I notified you and the carpet installer before the carpet was even scheduled to go in. The carpet installers had no issue with the delay. I did not say everything was perfect. I have never said that. I never even spoke with you when the payment was given. The fact you felt the need to lie on your response to my review says more about your lack of professionalism and pettiness than my own complaints. Removed a star for your deceptive tactics. Update after electrical inspection: All was good so no issues there."

"I have never been more disappointed in the work of a company. We contacted JSL for a quote on repairing our leaking box gutter and consequently damaged soffit. They came in at around $2400, so we proceeded. Two workers were here for a total of about 28 hours to “finish” the job. There was no warning they were coming or going, they left debris and nails all over the yard, and most importantly they did shoddy work. The soffits still appear damaged (although not as badly… but give it time). The bill came for $4100! My husband contacted JSL for an explanation an itemized receipt and was refused. The explanation was that this was for the hours worked at $90/hour and the materials (mostly nails, plywood and a gallon of white paint that was obviously leftover from another job). After arguing for a while they finally knocked $300 off the final bill. I went out this morning (2 weeks later) to see the paint is already taking on water damage and pulling away from the soffit. SO, we will be right back where we started after a couple more rains. After all this, JSL sent us a letter asking us to review them on Facebook. So here you go. I don’t recommend them. We love to support small business and local entrepreneurs, but not at the expense of quality service."
