Steak 'n Shake

"Yet another establishment which asks for tip before any service has been provided. Heavy automation for ordering really means there is no service for the customer almost no contact with any staff. Kind of dirty. Grill needed a good scrape. Shake was really good. One half step ahead of typical McDonalds, but not a good McDonald's on a good day."

"The servers are gone. The cashier is gone. You use a kiosk that is easy to use to order and pay. It takes about 45 seconds to process and 5 more seconds to produce a receipt and bar code for the soft drink machine. Grab a cup and ice then scan the bar code and dispense your drink. It worked for my refill too. I am convinced that as soon as your food is ready your name is called to pick it up. I love the shoestring French fries. !!!"

"I was happy to hear steak n shake was revamped. So I figured I would give them another try. I am so happy to say, it was a great experience. Service was prompt and food was hot. The Manager (could be owner) went around to every table making sure everyone was happy. The day I happened to go, there was a Karen trying to make staffs lives miserable. Manager was not having it, and asked the woman to leave and called the police. It was nice to see, how much he cared for his staff and was not about to have anyone disrespect them. I will definitely be back."

"The atmosphere was different because you order from a kiosk instead of an actual person. Food was good as always. They have some of the best Onion Rings. I was glad when they opened in the Charleston area, so we really miss having them in SC."

"When there's no longer the soda shop feel, at least there could be some cool AI stuff like in Back To The Future 2... but there's none of that here. We were "greeted" at the door not by a smiling face, but five (maybe 6?) kiosks, only one of which accepted cash, so guess where the line was? In our state of borderline hangryness, we were ill-equipped to make the sound decision to leave, so we ordered on the touch screen, thankful we were at least now saving a tip. We sat and waited for the super enthused (not) guy at the counter to take the mic and call our name in "Bueller" monotone fashion. Back at our table, I immediately noticed my burger was missing ALL FOUR options that I had selected, as noted on the big, long slip that clearly no one on the line read. I approached the counter, tray in hand, and after about 3 minutes the super enthused guy returns and asks, "What's missing?" Funny, it's like he knew. Meanwhile, people are steadily coming in and turning around to leave as we enjoy our shakes and onion rings and really just make our way through our burgers. Pretty certain we will not be back to this location."
