"Free outing! How great is that? Get away from people and easily into nature. Bring water, snack, hat, sunscreen. There is plenty of shade and some benches. Start with the educational center, especially press the button for the thunderstorm. It is amazing! Go outside and watch the quick video and do sign in and get the map. Bathroom break, anyone? See the big turtle, Darwin! Time to begin your walk. Great opportunity to stop at numbers along the path to learn something new per the map narrtive. Find out about Spanish Moss - neat-o! We saw lots of turtles on the lake shore and an osprey and its huge nest. Somewhat easy walking trails (though watch for the tree roots, snakes, alligators -we never saw last 2). Some mud too, but we easily kept our sneakers white. Do sgn out so they know you made it back. I am directionally challenged and I made it back so there is hope for you too. Enjoy your adventure."

"Hiked about 2.5 miles in an hour. Really well-maintained trail but be sure to have good shoes for the muddy parts of it. It’s awesome how the preserve has sandy, wooded, and swampy parts. The Visitor Center also has super clean bathrooms, a butterfly garden, and some turtles!"

"Great quiet place for a nice walk. It was a little wet from the night before though. Got to see a gator from the lookout pier. I didn't even notice the tortoises until we were about to leave."

"Our adventure to the preserved was fantastic. For being near Orlando it was surprisingly calm and quiet. It was very friendly to having young children with us and would easily be accessible with a stroller. We happened to show up on a day with a nature scavenger hunt that ended with treats for the kids and adults both. We were able to see some wildlife while we were out which is always great! The information center included 2 live baby alligators and a lot of information! Overall would highly recommend taking a family trip here!"
