Located in Homestead, Florida, United States, the Christian Point Trail offers a unique opportunity to explore a wide variety of habitats. While the trail is currently not being maintained to protect the critical habitat of the Cape Sable thoroughwort, visitors can still enjoy a rustic path through dense mangroves, buttonwoods, and open coastal prairies. Be cautious of terrain obstacles and vegetation along the way, as the trail may have some overgrowth due to lack of maintenance.
The trail begins amidst lush mangroves and buttonwoods filled with bromeliads before leading you through salt-loving vegetation of the coastal prairie. Keep an eye out for dead buttonwood snags that have been shaped by hurricanes. The trail ends along the shore of Snake Bight, offering breathtaking views especially near high tide.
To reach the Christian Point Trail, head one mile north of the Flamingo Visitor Center on the main park road. While the trail may not be as well-kept as usual, park staff are working on developing new management techniques to ensure the protection of the Cape Sable thoroughwort habitat, with plans to reinstate trail management in the future. Enjoy a peaceful hike through diverse landscapes and immerse yourself in the beauty of this unique ecosystem.

"Dated 01/03/2024 The trail might be nice when dry but it’s the exact opposite right now and probably for a while. It starts off muddy and a very slippery foot bridge, but the trail completely disappears into mud and water when you get to the first open area after about 50 yards. The mud and water is inches deep too. This trail may only be passable in March/April when things get dried up, but the trail is quickly being overtaken by mangrove trees. Do not attempt without a GPS, experience way finding, walking sticks to keep you from falling, and a willingness to get wet and muddy."
"This may be a nice trail, but even in late January the hike was impossible due to the muddy ground that sank below your feet. Some nice wildlife on the short hike though. It is worth checking out, just don't expect to get far."
"We went on this hike. Be prepared, it’s not paved or groomed. It’s really rough. Full of mud. Pretty cool experience to hike this trail."
"Like a starting line to race against an invisible biting nemesis , the Christian Point Trail is full of mosquitoes and moving quickly can help. Once out in full sun the annoyance subsided and it was a more pleasant experience. A different side of the park awaits at the end of the trail in the form of a beach and tidal mud flat on the bay. The entire park is a matter of timing in order to avoid the insects, Winter, if you can call it that in southern Florida, is better than summer."
