About the Business

Big Lagoon State Park

Big Lagoon State Park, located at 12301 Gulf Beach Highway in Pensacola, Florida, is a diverse natural oasis offering a range of outdoor activities. From saltwater tidal marshes to pine flatwoods, the park attracts a variety of bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatching during migration seasons.

Effective February 1, 2025, the campground at Big Lagoon State Park will be closed for renovations until August 1, 2025. However, visitors can still enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and paddling during this time.

The park serves as a gateway to the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail, where adventurers can embark on a 1,515-mile sea kayaking journey around the entire state. A kayak embedded in sand marks the launch site, along with a log book for travelers to document their experiences.

Big Lagoon State Park is also a stop on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, hosting over 23 species of wood-warblers, ducks, sandpipers, and black-bellied plovers. Visitors can borrow binoculars from the ranger station or climb the observation tower for a bird's-eye view of the coastal forest.

Whether you're looking to explore nature, relax on the beach, or embark on a kayaking adventure, Big Lagoon State Park is the perfect starting point for your outdoor journey.

"Great FL St. Park. Lots of wildlife. Great to see park has been repaired since hurricane damage two years ago. Well marked trails. Very nice campground"

"Great Park. Very quiet and everyone very nice. Lots are private but be careful when you book to get a spot that will accept your size rig. We were in spot 63 and have a 32' fifth wheel. Very tight to get in due to surrounding vegetation but got her in. Entrance to campsites are 1 way road. Beach small but nice. Trails are great. No sewer hookup so be aware of that, there is a dump on the way out. Will be back again for sure! Would give 5 stars if we had sewer hookup."

"Cool area. RV park was fine, with several sites far larger than they describe. The one they assigned was too tight for our 5th wheel to get in, but we found another about 80' long. Usually nearly full, so good luck."

"We really enjoyed spending our day at Big Lagoon State Park. There were plenty of parking spots available. We walked the Sandy Pine Trail Loop (3.5 miles) and boardwalk sections. The boardwalk provides an expansive view of Big Lagoon and Grand Lagoon. The best views were from the observation tower. As we were walking, we saw several small birds, an armadillo, and a swamp rabbit. There were several covered areas with picnic tables and restrooms available. For a $6.00 entry fee, this park is definitely worth it."

"It’s a large facility with plenty of open space. Hiking, kayaking, boating and numerous private pavilions available from small to large, including an amphitheater. The sky tower recently reopened and facilities are clean and conveniently located throughout the park. Carloads are reasonably priced, with annual passes available. Birds and other wildlife are a sure attraction."
