"This was hands down the worst experience I have ever had. The nurses are too busy for you, you feel unsafe and no one treats you like you matter. I have been in and out of psych hospitals and this is probably the worst experience I have had. They solely concentrate on medications and don't offer much else. One of the doctors with long brown hair yells at you and does not listen. Even the "mindfulness" class was a joke. You are extremely restricted and there is not much going on to pass the time. We weren't even allowed access to books and food is only given at certain times. Also this is co-ed and men and women interact on the unit together- if you have past trauma this "hospital" will make it worse. If I could give 0 stars I would."

"My internship at NBH has been absolutely amazing. The staff genuinely cares about their patients and their interns. I've had the privilege of working with incredible mentors, Anthony and Dr. Dickey, who have been phenomenal. Their dedication to patient care and their wealth of knowledge are truly inspiring. The outstanding level of compassion and the expertise demonstrated by the entire staff at NBH have made my experience here incredibly fulfilling. I'm immensely grateful to be part of a team where personal and professional growth are valued. Thank you, NBH, for an unforgettable internship."

"Pseudonym being used* TL;DR: This facility was a very positive experience for me that added value to my life (Gus, Payton, you are inspirational!), gave me positive coping strategies, reminded me of old ones, encouraged me, and above all listened to me and accommodated as best they could. This was a great experience and I made real growth here, and value was added to my life. The first two nights were very hard for me but after learning to control my breathing, I acclimated greatly. ALL, and I MEAN ALL of the mental technicians were very competent, caring, and I even felt loved at times. Mathieu advocated for me in a INCREDIBLE WAY, Peter was very welcoming and friendly, homely. Denise was always on her best game face and tried to help everyone as best as she could. I felt very safe here. I started every sentence with 'Excuse me' and the techs were always willing to help me. No facility is perfect but I can say with honestly that if I should ever need to be somewhere safe in order to be safe of myself and others ( I experienced Psychosis) I will return to this facility. Everyone hired here seems to have a real calling for their respective role. I have to give credit where credit is due. Payton, sunshine and light! my first interaction with staff at this facility and she listened to me. She genuinely cared for my care at the facility and was very honest throughout my entire 8 day stay. I don't have time to describe every positive experience but I can say the nurses, technicians, nurse practitioners, Dr's, and even the cleaning staff treated me with respect, confidence, and understanding. I truly think the hiring manager or director of this facility knows exactly what they are doing. I learned coping strategies I had forgotten since a child, I shared and practiced my breathing and coping strategies with others, and the Doctor's and staff ALWAYS took time to LISTEN to me and others. We treated them with respect and they always returned it. I will never forget my stay here. Thank you Peter, Zofia, Tech Mathieu, Tech Denise, Counselor Gus, my nurse Michael! Thank you Michael. Thank you also to whoever is pulling the strings and hiring the right people. Thanks!"

"For safety reasons I am not posting this under my real name (NBJ) but I felt compelled to leave the first review and share my experience as a patient while undergoing treatment during a difficult time in my life. To begin with, I was not happy to be transferred from Jfk hospital to this place at first but then again who ever is. I just wanted to go home. I was greeted by the director (a lovely woman) who assured me they would do everything to make me as comfortable as possible during my stay. The intake process was quick and the staff provided me with an awesome meal to hold me over during the process. The intake staff were very nice, Keke was great and I didn't catch the other two gentlemen and lady's name but they had me smiling in no time as I warmed up to the place. After Intake I was walked back through the day room to my room and was pleased to see it was both men and women in one large mix with free roam access throughout the facility (except for the admin side). At full capacity there may have been maybe 40-50 people total but the large layout kept people from being on top of each other all the time and helped keep the noise down. The nurses and staff were stationed in a large secure completely windowed area in the middle of the facility so they could see most of the interior with ease. There were multiple gigantic tv's we had access to including a courtyard, and two activities rooms. Ms. Gina and the woman and young man she worked with were amazing and led daily groups and used art, crafts, music, meditation and yoga to help heal. I have since taken up yoga and meditation full time thanks to their introduction. The food was amazing and they had a large screen with every days meals posted as well as substitutions for allergy/religion including daily schedules of groups and events. There also were multiple times a day we received snacks and ice water and this lovely green cool aide type drink whenever you asked. They had numerous nurses on staff that split up the needs of the patients and every question or need I had was quickly addressed. Throughout my stay I always felt safe and they had behavioral health techs that patrolled and made sure everyone was taken care of. One bigger white guy was really cool with me and helped me to understand some of the processes and protocols. My psych Dr was a younger caring man who took the time listen to me and my situation. He was able to get me the help I needed and started me on medication that he asked if I was interested in and didn't just push meds on me. Mike the social worker is a awesome!!! He was able to get me setup with my old psych Dr, a bus ride home on discharge and provided me with a wealth of information to help me with after I left. All these wonderful people made it feel comfortable and to be truly honest, leaving was kind of sad because I had made connections with soo many people. I have been in several places like this before but my experience here was soo amazing I had to leave this review and let them all know how much I appreciate them. As I was leaving the director heard my voice and remembered me from our initial meeting and came out to wish me success, in fact all the admin staff did so and it made me feel like I was blessed to have been transferred here and not another place. Today I'm celebrating 7 days completely clean and now have the tools and outpatient professionals to help continue to aide me in my recovery from substance abuse and bipolar disorder. To all the staff, I and my family thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for us. To anyone looking for help this is the place to go! The program only works if you work it. And BTW, I was not paid nor asked to leave this review. God put it on my heart to do so. God bless you all!"
