Reviews
"Clean park and lovely rest stop on the way to the Veteran’s Cemetery. It is your 2nd right after the 1st bridge (Lock 4)- the signage is easy to miss. There are steep steps to the viewing area but you can see quiet well by the picnic tables."
"I wanted to respond to the negative review that says "There is no parking. We don't know why it's considered a nature walk." This is just wrong; I suspect that the reviewer went to the wrong place. To find the right place, coming from Stillwater, you cross two bridges, the first over the Hudson and the second over the canal, then turn right on the narrow paved road to the lock. Keep left to go past the lock tender's office and into the paved parking lot, which has room for about 15 cars. There are half a dozen picnic tables, but no restroom. The main nature trail is a loop with both ends at the parking lot, one next to the canal and the other just where the access road turns to go into the lot. The trail runs about 1/3 mile south from the lot down to the point where the canal and the Hoosic River converge, with several cross trails and side trails down to the river. The easy trail runs through pleasant woods with abundant birds, mosses, and lichens, and wildflowers in season. Don't forget the tick spray!"
"Great place to go walking around you never know what you might see"
"When I went the nature trail it was closed to the public. And it looked like there was people's private properties. In the 20 years I've been around I've never seen the lock open or closed. There's dead fish everywhere. Definitely has a smell you don't want to bring back with you. Not really secure for little kids. I mean it's a lock. Honestly I think they just threw in nature trail just to say they have one. There is no parking. We don't know why it's considered a nature walk. It's more for somebody that wants to parkour over fences. Just don't go.."
