"Everyone was very welcoming..... from the receptionist to the dr herself. It was my puppies first time and they all took good care of Freckles. They also listened to my questions and took time with me to answer and to put me at ease. I have no worries with taking Freckles again."

"Just recently our dog was neutered and also had a gastropexy. I got the call that he was done but he would have to spend the night and that it was their policy. The vet tech on the phone said there were cameras and if something went wrong, the vet was near by to go in and care for the pets. I disagreed with this policy and wanted to bring my dog home since I would have eyes on him 24/7 compared to a camera and they refused. I was not rude nor mean on the phone and said I was more than comfortable watching him due to my medical background. They still said no. I nicely said ok I just can’t guarantee we will stay there as I disagree with this policy. I was told even if he was simply just neutered he would have to spend the night because that’s their policy. Now If they said the surgery was more complex than expected or something had happened I would understand keeping him, but this was not the case. Now In Reality I was looking to switch anyways due to the long drive of 30 minutes every time we needed our dogs to be seen (hr round trip), but this experience just made me switch earlier. 2 days after his surgery I called to get his files transferred over as I can’t make an appointment for my dogs as new clients at a different vet without them. Our appointment was far out because I knew we still had to do post op and get his staples removed with Happy Valley who did his surgery. My husband called to schedule his post op and staple removal and they basically told him our dogs were no longer their patients and they will give him a staple remover and I can remove them since I was a nurse and felt comfortable. So they won’t trust me to care for my dog after surgery but they trust me to take out my own dog’s staples lol. Now being a trauma/Surgical ICU nurse at a level one trauma center for 5 years, an OR nurse for 3.5 years and a pre/post op nurse currently with my doctorates, I feel more than comfortable doing so since my entire career I’ve cared for the sickest of the sick and the most complex surgical patients but that’s besides that point!! They literally tell me I have to remove the staples but yet I can’t bring my dog home and care for him 5 + hrs after a routinely performed procedure. I called our new vet and told them what they told my husband and they kindly said absolutely no problem we will take care of you and got me in at the 10 day mark to remove them. Even though I would have been more than happy to do so myself, I need to have a vet established for my dogs as it’s not appropriate nor responsible as a dog parent to not have a vet readily available if needed. Happy Valley apparently doesn’t care for patients after their files have been transferred, didn’t even bother to ask when their appointment was scheduled so a transition of care could be established, even though they know a new appointment may not be able to be made for a few months. I felt as if they just abandoned them and clearly took offense to me wanting to switch even though it had nothing to do with their care just simply their policy. Three out of four vets I called don’t keep their dogs overnight for being fixed or a gastropexy because they are routine outpatient surgeries for dogs. Our new vet ensured me this was 100% not a policy they had, they are just a few miles away from us, and have great reviews which is why I switched. If Happy Valley didn’t just do a double standard I probably wouldn’t have written a review, but to say your ok with me removing the staples and will give me the device to do so, yet won’t trust me to care for my dog after a routine surgery is just not ok with me."
