"The Point at Dunn Loring Comprehensive Review The Unit: The apartment units are very spacious and have nice flooring and kitchens with island counters. We had a unit facing inward to the pool area which was nice and quiet as it was not facing the street. The kitchen and bathroom fixtures felt cheap and wore down quickly, but weren’t terrible. The Area: While proximity to the Dunn Loring Metro, Tysons and Mosaic is nice, the actual Halstead-Point “corridor” of the few blocks between the Halstead/Avalon and the metro is not good. The strip is mostly open for lease, leaving the immediate area as a kind of dead zone. Secondly, there are a lot of sketchy people that have migrated to the Dunn Loring area, making it less safe to walk around, particularly at night. There has been a visible increase in crime in the area over two years while living in the building. Onto security. The staff at the Point do not take security seriously at all. When we first moved in, there was a string of car break-ins directly resulting from the broken garage entrance gate not being fixed for months. While you need to fob into elevators and into the building, there are no security cameras anywhere. My wife once ran into a homeless man without pants in the stairwell, and there were a few other instances where vagrants got into the building. When we reported this to the staff, nothing was done. Staff: The highlight of the Point staff is the leasing team. I had positive experiences working with the resident manager, Veronica, who was always very helpful and reliable. We chose the Point over the Halstead partially because we had a great tour and communication with the leasing consultant, Eric, who unfortunately left after we moved in. The maintenance staff were very responsive to our requests. There were however consistent maintenance issues in the building, particularly with the elevators, of which there would always be one or two that were out at a given time. In both our move-in and move-out, the freight elevator closest to our unit was out which was very frustrating. The biggest negative is the front desk staff. In short, they are completely incompetent and unreliable. It was always a constant worry that they would lose your packages, and never provided any real help if you asked a question or called them with an issue. One time, I had friends over to watch a game in the common room, and they were unable to get a single TV working in two different buildings. I have countless more examples of this but another is after we left, and the front desk turned away the mail carrier with a package for me which had to be returned because they didn’t give them our forwarding address (which we provided). Amenities: There is a gym in each building, which has high quality equipment that should be satisfactory for nearly all residents. It has two pools that are open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There are a few small workspaces, but there is no business center with a communal printer. Value: Rent pricing is on par with the market. The yearly rent increases were very reasonable, especially considering the high inflation environment. You’re not getting ripped off, but not getting a deal either. The fees are transparent, and you won’t run into issues if you pay your rent on time and pay attention to notices coming from the staff. Verdict: Would I recommend to live at the Point? Maybe for young people who work in Tysons/Arlington and don’t want to pay the premium to live directly in those areas. I would not recommend the Point to those looking for an urban environment, or those without a car. Nor would I recommend the community to anybody with children. Positives: Spacious apartment units Grocery Store at the bottom of the building Pricing that isn’t crazy Close to Mosaic/Tysons Negatives: Security Immediate area is moving in the wrong direction Some issues with staff & maintenance"
"I relocated from Hawaii to The Point in the midst of pandemic and while I was in treatment for cancer. The Point was respectful of covid safety guidelines. My domestic partner's and my experience have been very positive. Unfortunately, I had to move out because of the cancer progression and my need to live on a ground floor. Rachel Rohan whom I first met over 2 + yrs ago remained kind and empathic in her approach to guide or help me. I found the other office staff (Veronica, Margarita, Kathy) to be equally helpful, professional and apologetic whenever they don’t respond to my request right away, and act quickly to resolve/fix it. I found the security guards attentive to the urgency I was dealing with. I felt safe living at the Point. I was on the 4th floor in building A. The residents on this floor were quiet at night. Trash and Recycle room and other common areas were kept clean. I didn’t find bugs in my apartment and in common areas. There were sufficient elevators on each floor with clear info. Dogs and cats were allowed. The staff do put in effort to celebrate popular holidays with residents, children and pets. Location was wonderful - right across from Dunn Loring metro. Metro buses, restaurants, Harris Teeter, INOVA Urgent Care, just a short walk or free shuttle ride to Mosaic district with many restaurants, movie theatre, shops, and Farmer’s Market during warmer seasons are such a plus. I did have maintenance issues - my dishwasher, laundry machine and my bathroom sink. The Emergency and Non-emergency maintenance staff responses were prompt and fixed the problems I reported on. They always wore masks and shoe covers every time they entered my apartment. They were friendly and explained the problem and what needs to be done to fix it. There are resident meet-up groups (e.g. games, book, movie club) you can join, and you can also start a new one. I would highly recommend The Point at Dunn Loring as your future home."
"Fantastic location, horrible management and maintenance. Very unresponsive and irresponsible. Have been living here for 3 years and first time leaving a review. Super lengthy but some incidents I’ve found very inconvenient. 1. If something breaks down, it takes forever to fix it. - When the garage door was broken, it was left open for almost a week or 2 weeks because they didn’t fix it right away. We pay for that secured resident only parking space, but that was wide open for a while. - I am pretty sure that yellow bar, limiting the height to underground parking broke down like almost 6 months - 1 year ago. Still broken as is. I guess they don’t know how to fix it. - When we park our cars at G1, we need to tab our key fob to get to the elevators. That broke down once and it was left it as is for at least 1-1.5 weeks. (I called and reported them right away that it is broken) I am sure that everyone had to wait for someone to come out from there so they could open the door for you. If you can’t make it fully functional or work, please don’t even think about locking it or restricting the resident access. It was awful. 2. There is no such thing called emergency in this property. - Once it was heavily rained, I don’t know what happened to the ceiling but water leaked from the ceiling. Called emergency maintenance. Phone number is valid, no one picked up my call. It was right in the middle of the day (3-4pm) and they said they are unavailable to pick up a call so leave a message and on call person will call you right away. -> I left a message and they never called me back. Imagine if it was keep pouring outside and the unit got flooded. No one picked up a call and it could’ve been a nightmare. - Currently, my thermostat and A/C is not working, and it was 80s farenheit sunny day outside today. As it is so hot inside my apartment, and called emergency maintenance. Same thing, no one is available to pick up my call today, so leave a message. This time, they called me back within 30 mins. Explained my situation to Dale (I guess he said he is a property assistant manager or maintenance manager). He said even though the unit’s thermostat and A/C is not working and he is in the apartment at the moment as an on call person, as it is currently 68F outside, he wouldn’t be able to deal with it because it is not emergency. I was deeply impressed how they determine themselves that “my situation” is not emergency so even though there is someone on site as an on call person, they won’t care. I guess in this property, it will be considered as an emergency when the unit has to fully burn down or ceiling has to collapse or something. 3. While they are very irresponsible and unresponsive to incidents I mentioned above, they are very responsive towing people’s car. I am not saying that they are doing it wrong, but it is hilarious to see and compare the speed of them towing the car versus fixing and maintaining the property appropriately. *** People who actually come to our unit to fix and provide maintenance, they are very nice. Don’t want to blame them. However, how they respond to the residents’ situations and how they actually initiate(escalate) the process to resolve the issue, they are extremely horrible. If you are looking for nice apartment and you are sensitive, please avoid."
"In our recent move into the Point at Dunn Loring, we have encounter nothing less than a courteous staff and accommodating employees. In particular, we like to than Seea Earl at the leasing office who was so helpful in assisting us during our move ensuring our transition from one apartment to another was so smooth and problem-free. Thank you for all you do."
"New Review 1/8/2022 - MOVING OUT That was an attention getter, right? I’ve lived at this property for over 3 YEARS and absolutely loved it! It was originally a modera managed by Mill Creek and management recently changed to Panco. I was very much on the offense about a company i didn’t recognize but they actually manage the property BETTER in my opinion that the previous owner. It’s is very clean, they maintain the property. This community is SAFE, metro accessible, amazing retail and most of all COMFORTABLE! Both gyms are pretty awesome with a variety of machines! I LOVED my apartment so much it was so hard to make the decision to leave. The only reason I’m moving is because I want to live in a different part of the DMV and try something new! Not sure what the mix was with the other reviews but as an extremely critical person who looks at detail, My stay here was amazing! Thank you to Ida the concierge who was so wonderful and always helpful, Chris Darden (manager), the Maintence team and everyone involved to make my stay a wonderful three years! Attaching pictures of my unit because i was obsessed with it! If i could rate this again, I’d say 5 stars all over! ***************** My concierge Maria is quite amazing. She is definitely the soul of this property and quite honestly the VERY REASON I decided to stay here another year. From day one when I met her moving here from another part of this country, she made me feel warm and welcomed. She was very honest about this community and practically sold it to me. She handles my packages, concerns, and the needs of our neighbors in this community professionally and with care. Every time I see her she makes me smile and has something positive to say. Thank you all for allowing us to have Maria!"
