Frederick House

"Great location, within walking distance of everything downtown has to offer. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and filling. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. Would definitely book here again."

"This was our first visit to Staunton and thank goodness we chose the Frederick House! Just to make things clear, it's more than one building. It's 5 by my count. Our choice was the Patrick House, a beautiful mansion about a block away from the office. The room(s) were massive and well appointed. My only issue was a tv that was a little too small for the size of the room. Breakfast was good, our hosts were helpful and the location was perfect. There's no question where we will stay at our next visit."

"Beautiful rooms, but the walls are extremely thin. We heard the neighbors leaving early in the morning with their door closing, luggage rolling, them speaking...also there is a beautiful church next door, but the bells rang early in the morning and there is a train somewhere nearby and we heard that in the early morning hours as well. Other than that, Ross was excellent upon us checking in, the bed waa very comfortable and breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious."

"Great location. Owners are very nice, especially Ross. I love the cat rescue they also run. Rooms were very clean except I was dismayed to see that a prior guest had written “boo!” on the bathroom mirror and was still visible after I showered. It made me question just how clean the rest REALLY was. I know a lot of people compliment the breakfast here and maybe I’m the odd one out, but I did not like it at all. The coffee tasted like truck stop coffee and the yogurt was inedible. My husband and I both ordered it and could barely finish the one bite each that we took. The fruit accompanying the yogurt was just as awful. My husband almost retched over the cantaloupe. I wish the beds weren’t beside the room door. You could hear every guest coming and going and it constantly woke me up. One guest was a certified psychopath who felt it was necessary to whistle while going to his room. I thought I was going to fist fight someone during my stay due to it. The location is great, though. An easy walk to anything in downtown Staunton. If the breakfast had been better I would maybe plan to stay again."

"English couple travelling round Virginia for our 20th wedding anniversary. The hotel is in a great location, right in the middle of town. Very friendly welcome. Unfortunately, that’s where the good review ends. The hotel “has character”, which includes two-inch gaps under the bedroom doors. As we found out, this makes it easy for mice to get into the bedroom. I managed to film one mouse at 10:30pm and found several droppings, including one in my coffee mug. After gaining video evidence we called the manger and asked to move us to another block. This was done, but no apology was forthcoming, not until we first apologised for calling him out so late (11pm). We are English. Apologising is what we do! Consequently, we both had an awful nights sleep. At breakfast the next morning another member of staff said words along the lines of “this is the south, these things are to be expected” and again, no apology was forthcoming. I was almost prepared to let this slide, but the total lack of apology has made me wonder if the staff care and has prompted me to warn others. It may be that this is “normal” for this area, but this would not be acceptable in any other hotel I’ve ever stayed in."
