"I have mixed feelings about Southwoods Counseling. (TL/DR at end) My background and reason for seeking treatment: I struggle with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I've been seeing Andrew Dawson for medication management and Christina Long for therapy sessions since around 2019. They are both absolutely amazing! As someone who doesn't like to be heavily medicated or "in a fog" because of my medications, Andy has been extremely knowledgeable about what medications will work best for me and my diagnoses/symptoms, but still keep me feeling level. He always gives me the details of my medication without using medical jargon and makes me feel confident in our shared decision (whether that's a change or staying with my current dosage). He never makes me feel like I'm not in control of my care and always makes me feel like we are in this together. I defer to him when I'm unsure, but this is the first time I've truly felt a medication provider is including my feedback in the decision. When I first started seeing Christina, I was coming from a therapist that I had been seeing for 2 years with very limited results and/or progression over that time. I was still suffering from heavy PTSD attacks, almost weekly anxiety attacks, and still couldn't see/hear an ambulance without my chest feeling heavy. In less than a year, Christina's techniques equipped me with tools to better manage my reactions, understand my triggers, and adapt to my "new" life. I continue maintenance therapy sessions with her because I realize that there are other areas of my life (besides those I was initially seeing her for) that I need to work through and be better equipped to live with. As for Southwoods Counseling itself - the office staff are generally disorganized and unempathetic. They are unwilling to work with patients even when the providers are willing to make the requested adjustments. Their billing system is a nightmare to understand. Reaching the office is also a struggle. TL/DR: If Andy and Christina were to venture into their own practices, I would follow them. They are both compassionate, understanding, and use a shared-decision making approach to care. The disorganization and lack of empathy from the office staff at Southwoods Counseling is concerning considering the work they are doing."

"I have been going here for a couple years and it is by far the best treatment and service I have ever received. Dr. Karen takes her time, never rushed and never wait long . The staff is caring and always helpful. Emily has patience and is empathetic to your needs. . I can’t say enough positive about everyone there. Thank you Southwoods Counseling!!"

"I've been a patient for years and they were never the greatest facility, but this is the last straw. I tried to make an appointment for months and none of my messages were returned. I finally got an appointment in April after calling since December. They call me the day of my appointment to say the nurse isn't actually available that day, and rescheduled for today. Lo and behold, the time for my appointment comes and goes with no call. I call the office 4x to finally reach someone, who says that even though I was scheduled for a phone call, it's too hard for them to bill so they don't want to do them. Again, after scheduling me for a telehealth appointment. I was put on hold after trying to reschedule for a third time, and they hung up on me. I've never worked so hard to not get meds in my entire life. On top of struggling with mental illness and everything else going on in 2022, this is absolutely unacceptable. They have been reported for patient neglect."

"I have never been treated so badly by Office staff in my life. This is supposed to be a mental health doctor's office but they have done nothing but caused me does me mental distress. I have had them give me the phone times dates for my appointments. I call they tell me they're going to put me on hold and hang up on me. Never answer the phone or return phone calls. I Was told I didn't have appointment and then got discharged from seeing my doctor from for non compliance. I loved my doctor and my counselor. It is ashame they don't have better office staff."

"Dave has been my counselor for almost 2 years. Dave is one of the best in his field, and has many years of experience. Any issues I have going on that I bring to therapy he has always advised me well, and steered me in the best direction. He also gives me an honest opinion and honest perspective on things. He has even came in after hours when my prescription was stalled at the pharmacy. I am very thankful for him, and the secretary. Charlene is so sweet, patient, and never misses a reminder call. She is always nice, even scheduling me around my crazy work schedule. I really appreciate both of them, and all of their hard work."
