Reviews
"I went for restaurant week lunch and was very happy with the food and experience! Servers were very attentive and kind. The crunchy thai salad, chicken Thai fried rice, and cheesecake were all great."
"Vibe: Modern Dress: Pants (dark jeans) and a casual T. Saw some folks wearing sweatshirts , saw others wearing peacoats (aka me) Bathrooms: Clean, deep in the back. Food: It was good, you are always going to way overpay for food on the wharf, but that’s just the pill you gotta swallow for being in the wharf. I’d definitely check this spot out for a treat if you are in the area."
"Quite a few of us have wanted to give Kaliwa a try for a while. It was quite disappointing. These new restaurants at the Wharf are definitely hit and miss. You never know what experience you will have. The food was so salty, service was lackluster, and for the prices they charge its unsettling what you get. If the goal was Thai, Korean, Filipino fusion food, the boat was missed."
"Kaliwa deserves a higher rating! We'd put off coming here because of some of the mediocre reviews, but I'm glad we made up our own minds because it was WELL worth it. I'm half Filipino, so I was familiar with most of the menu already, and that likely made my experience there even better. We showed up on a Saturday without a reservation, and were still able to be seated at one of the high-tops immediately. We had a great view into the kitchen to see some of the food prep happening, and I loved that. The interior of the restaurant has high ceilings and big windows but still manages to feel very cozy. Next time I want to come back with a reservation so we can get one of the couch tables, because they looked amazing. Our server was friendly and kind and answered any questions we had very knowledgeably. I wish I remembered her name to give her a specific shout-out! What we ordered: Calamansi Lemonade: Loved it, am still craving it, would've drank more of it. Lumpia Spring Rolls: Perfectly crunchy without being TOO crunchy. I'm more used to a sweet & sour dipping sauce than the brown sauce that was served with it, but it was still delicious. Filipino Mango Salad: I LOVE mango, and this was so crisp and refreshing. My only critique would've been wishing that the lettuce pieces were chopped a little smaller but that's mostly just so I didn't make such a mess eating them lol. Bok Choy: LOVED IT, always love bok choy. Adobo: Oh my GOSH, the star of the meal in my opinion. It was so rich and the meat was falling off the bones. I picked around the green onions, but that's just because I don't particularly like them (personal preference). French Fries: Like if Five Guys fries had a glow-up. Yum. Pad Thai: Better than most pad thai I've had in the area, but the dish itself isn't my favorite. My partner loved it, though. As of this review, Kaliwa has a 3.9 star review, which might deter some business with so many other places to eat nearby. I'm already thinking about my next trip here and can't wait for my mom (Filipino) to experience it with me."
"I was very nervous making this reservation. This was my first michelin experience and after reading countless reviews i didnt know what to expect. Ultimately i decided to treat it like any other restaurant and let the experience speak for itself. Reservations were at 8 and the restaurant was fairly empty for s saturday night. The restuarant is gorgeous. I cant speak enough on how visually appealing it is. We opted for the shared plates. And ordered the mango salad, spring rols, abodo, bulguli (spelling) and a side of garlic fried rice. The salad was extremely EXTREMELY lack luster. Nothing more then a standard diner garden salad with diced mango. The spring rolls were delightful. Easily my favorite of the evening. The main courses were decent, but would honestly have come from any no name restaurant anywhere in the country and would probably have been equal or even better. The fried rice had fresh tasting veggies in it, but….. missed the mark on any flavor. The portion size was good (for $100 i would hope so) and we have plenty left over. But overall. Kaliwa was just “ok”. Good enough to come back for a happy hour perhaps if im in the area, definitely NOT good enough to excuse the 4 hour drive i took to visit. 3/5 stars for me in terms of food. 4 total because the atmosphere and service were great. The drinks were also amazing. Top notch drinks."
