"Let me say I grew up in The Bronx and loved Italian sandwiches. Amato's makes some of the BEST FOOD IN GENERAL but the Sandwiches really are the BEST EVER!!!! Some history..... Amato's was founded in 1902 in Maine by Giovanni Amato. Amato's is best known for its Italian sandwiches. "The Original Real Italian," was supposedly invented in 1902."
"We stopped into Portland on way to Moosehead Lake. A friend suggested best Italian sandwiches! We also got the chicken Parm which was the best one I've ever had and they are my favorite sandwich. Cute patio with ample outdoor seating, friendly and knowledgeable staff."
