"Had an amazing overnight spa stay! The staff are fantastic, the rooms are gorgeous and the perks of booking with the hotel direct are brilliant. I stayed with a friend and we had spa treatments the morning of check out. The spa treatments were amazing, we left feeling soothed and relaxed. When booking we were informed that breakfast would be reduced due to a refurbishment, instead of a cooked breakfast we had a delicious light breakfast of fresh pastries, fruit and yoghurt and granola brought to our room. The quality of the food was superb. I was sorry to leave and am already looking to book again later in the year. I cannot recommend this place enough!"

"Popped in for drinks on New Year's Eve as it looked so welcoming. Excellent service from the mixologists and staff in general. The drinks selection was also excellent with some interesting wines, cocktails and winter warmers. The decor and ambience was befitting a high-end London hotel and little touches showed whoever has thought about this venture has a real eye for customer service, an understanding of guest comfort and how to delight. We will return again soon."

There are so many brilliant touches like the pantry and the record library, plus the rooms are furnished in a really unique style. The hotel is only a short walk away from the city centre. "Outstanding hotel with staff that couldn't do more for you. The guestroom we stayed in was lovely and the little touches like the record player and record selection are a really nice touch We only had breakfast in the restaurant but it was very high standard and great tasting. The bar area is very cosy and warm. The room we had was quite small and cramped. Fine for a couple of night stay but you would be short on clothing space if staying longer. Bar prices were very steep with £10+ for a glass of Chardonnay. However I would definitely stay here again"

"Well, where can I start? We'd never stayed at a hotel like this before as we usually have a much lower budget, so we had no idea what to expect. But No1 blew our expectations out of the water! The decor and atmosphere at the hotel is just delightful, and we loved the attention to detail and the extra amenities for guests (like the pantry, record player and the doll house) which made our stay so special and memorable. Our room was so light and airy, and furnished so comfortably, making it such a lovely place to relax after busy days exploring the city. The food at breakfast was absolutely delicious, and after a day of walking we loved the different cocktails available from the bar. The biggest highlight of our stay was the service levels. The staff are truly a credit to the hotel and really made our experience amazing - each and every one was so warm and friendly - asking where we'd come from, whether we'd slept well, what we'd been up to that day, as well as being able to give us recommendations in the city - all just made us feel so valued and welcome. I wish I'd caught their names! Special thanks to the staff member who checked us in and showed us to our room after our long drive to York, then gave us recommendations for where to go for dinner. Honestly I can say that we had the most relaxing few days in York - I would love to go back to No1 again in the future, and definitely look forward to trying the other Guesthouse hotels around the UK in the future."
