Isaac Jenkins Mikell House

Built in 1853-1854 by cotton planter and enslaver Isaac Jenkins Mikell for his wife Mary Martha Pope, this grand Italian villa-style home features a pedimented portico with six columns adorned with composite capitals and rams' heads. The property also includes a kitchen building, coach house, and slave quarters. Originally serving as a public library from 1935 to the early 1960s, the house was later restored as a private residence and eventually purchased by Manhattan socialite Patricia Altschul in 2008 for $4.8 million. The Isaac Jenkins Mikell House has gained further recognition through its appearances on the Bravo television reality show Southern Charm, as Altschul's son Whitney Sudler-Smith is a regular cast member and executive producer of the show. In 2014, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
