Visitors can explore the Clark Run Trail, a 2-mile footpath that winds through the scenic Clark Run Gorge, featuring small waterfalls and interesting geologic formations. The Clear Shade Wild Area, located nearby in Somerset County, offers 2,791 acres of cherry, maple, and beech forest for backcountry recreational opportunities along the John P. Saylor Trail and Clear Shade Creek.

GAP Trail Access
● OpenGAP Trail Access, located at 300 Rockdale Road in Rockwood, Pennsylvania, is a popular tourist attraction managed by the Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association. The institution began as the Somerset County Rails to Trails Association in 1991 with the goal of completing the Great Allegheny Passage from the Mason-Dixon Line to Confluence and Ohiopyle State Park. Today, visitors can enjoy 43 miles of scenic trails along the GAP, which was completed in 2019. In addition to maintaining the Passage, the institution is now focused on building new trails, including a public greenway around Lake Somerset and a path connecting the GAP at Garrett to the 9/11 Memorial near Shanksville as part of the 9/11 Memorial Trail. The institution also hosts events such as the Tour de Trail and provides resources for small towns to embrace outdoor recreation as an economic strategy.
