Pinkerton High Bridge
About the Business
Nestled along the picturesque Great Allegheny Passage in Fort Hill, Pennsylvania, Pinkerton High Bridge is a must-visit tourist attraction that offers breathtaking views and a rich historical backdrop. This scenic bridge is a part of the Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association's (SCRTA) extensive network of trails, originally established in 1991 with the ambitious goal of completing the Great Allegheny Passage from the Mason-Dixon Line to Confluence and Ohiopyle State Park. These 43 miles have since become one of the most beloved and visually stunning sections of the trail.
The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) was completed in 2019, and the mission of SCRTA expanded, leading to a slight name change to better reflect its broader scope: Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association. The organization continues to maintain its section of the Passage while actively developing new trails, including a public greenway encircling the rehabilitated Lake Somerset and a trail from the GAP at Garrett to the 9/11 Memorial near Shanksville. This latter path forms part of the larger 9/11 Memorial Trail, connecting sites of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Visitors to Pinkerton High Bridge can also learn about the historical significance of the area through various initiatives and events such as the 2023 Tour de Trail from Berlin, PA to the Flight 93 Memorial. The bridge and its surrounding trails are more than just a recreational haven; they are a testament to the power of outdoor activities in boosting local economies and fostering community spirit in small towns.
Whether you're a history buff, nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a serene escape, Pinkerton High Bridge offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, making it an essential stop on your journey through the Great Allegheny Passage.

Reviews
"Rode from Rockwood to Pinkerton High bridge-tunnel-low bridge area. Fantastic ride. Did it early in the morning when it was cooler, so no insects. Can be very quiet along trail, butman active railroad is on the other side of Casselman River, so an occasional train noise and horns can be heard."
"Great Trail Laurel Highlands Evergreen rhododendron"
"good views and a comfortable bench."
