Constructed between 1974 and 1978 in Greenup, Kentucky, this 33-foot, 14-ton vessel was a groundbreaking achievement as the first concrete-reinforced houseboat of its kind. Named after Bob’s beloved wife, Laura Avenell, the Laura VII—now affectionately known as The Laura VI—was an ambitious project that captivated the local community. Witness the ingenuity that brought the houseboat to life, from laying railroad tracks to using a bulldozer for its launch into the Ohio River. Remarkably, the Laura VII floated effortlessly, displacing only 10 inches of water, much to the amazement of onlookers.
