Originally established in 2005 as The East End African American Museum and Center for Excellence, SAAM has grown from a virtual museum to a permanent home affectionately known as “The Barbershop.” This historic building, once a local gathering place for African Americans from the 1940s, was designated as the first African American historic landmark in the Village of Southampton in 2010.
