Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center & Museum 100 Montauk Highway, Southampton, NY 11968
About the Business
Welcome to the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center & Museum, a unique and enriching destination located at 100 Montauk Highway, Southampton, New York. Established in 2001, we are proud to be the only Native American owned and operated nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization on Long Island dedicated to honoring the legacy of our ancestors and the living history of the Shinnecock people, descendants of the Algonquin.
Our museum offers a fascinating journey through over 10,000 years of Shinnecock history, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our people who have inhabited what is now known as Long Island. Nestled within a 5,000-square-foot facility constructed from Adirondack white pine, our exhibition space is thoughtfully designed to provide an immersive educational experience.
We are excited to feature new cultural material items in our permanent display, originally showcased at the Southampton Historical Museum in 2011 as part of the "10,000 Years of Hunting and Fishing on Long Island" exhibition. These artifacts beautifully illustrate the various time periods of Shinnecock history, including the Paleolithic, Archaic, Woodland, and Historic periods. Now, they are a proud part of our main exhibit, "A Walk with the People."
Our mission at the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center & Museum is to foster awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Shinnecock history and culture. We invite you to explore our exhibits, learn about our traditions, and connect with the enduring spirit of the Shinnecock people. Join us in honoring our ancestors and celebrating our vibrant living history.

Reviews
"Came today visit today. This museum is closed and totally empty. All the artifacts have been removed."
"Great cultural center and the tribal members were very informed about the tribe and history. A very beautiful tribe."
"It closed an hour earlier than advertized. However, we did meet an informative and accomplished Shinnecock jewelry designer and other nice people who had stands outside the museum. The grounds need maintenance."
"Such a special part of American history and it is beautifully displayed here. The staff were amazing. They have a big event around the strawberry harvest, the pow wow, and a winter festival. Please do yourself a favor and stop in."
