The conservancy was founded in 2004 by a group of Cranford citizens to support efforts to upgrade and maintain Hanson Park, as well as provide guidance and financial support for the preservation of the Cranford Canoe Club building. One of the initiatives of the Hanson Park Conservancy is the Jan Lilien Education Fund, which provides educational programs on sustainability and environmental awareness.
