Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge
Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located at 8757 Spring Meadows Road in Amargosa Valley, Nevada, United States. This park and tourist attraction is the largest remaining oasis in the Mojave Desert and is internationally recognized as a wetland and designated Ramsar site. Visitors can unwind and reconnect with nature while exploring the refuge, which boasts the highest concentration of endemic species in the United States. There are four endangered fish species and eight threatened or endangered plant species within the diverse habitats, including dune fields, alkali seeps, and groves of mesquite and ash trees. The spring systems are fed by fossil water that originated from the last ice age. The refuge has friendly staff and volunteers available to answer questions and a state-of-the-art visitor center with interactive learning stations. There are three points of interest with wheelchair accessible boardwalks, restrooms, interpretive signs, views, and picnic areas. Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize impact on Ash Meadows. The National Wildlife Refuge System, owned and managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, focuses on wildlife conservation and working with others to protect and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the benefit of the American people.
