About the Business

Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located at 8757 Spring Meadows Road in Amargosa Valley, Nevada, United States. This park and tourist attraction is the largest remaining oasis in the Mojave Desert and is internationally recognized as a wetland and designated Ramsar site. Visitors can unwind and reconnect with nature while exploring the refuge, which boasts the highest concentration of endemic species in the United States. There are four endangered fish species and eight threatened or endangered plant species within the diverse habitats, including dune fields, alkali seeps, and groves of mesquite and ash trees. The spring systems are fed by fossil water that originated from the last ice age. The refuge has friendly staff and volunteers available to answer questions and a state-of-the-art visitor center with interactive learning stations. There are three points of interest with wheelchair accessible boardwalks, restrooms, interpretive signs, views, and picnic areas. Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize impact on Ash Meadows. The National Wildlife Refuge System, owned and managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, focuses on wildlife conservation and working with others to protect and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the benefit of the American people. Please note that the refuge does not guarantee that linked websites comply with Accessibility Requirements and does not endorse, recommend, or favor any particular sites.
Reviews
"A very easy walk with beautiful views. There are several small trails in the area to visit and explore. The pools of water were so clear you could see everything inside. The pictures don't do it justice"
"There are many individual water features in this wetlands oasis. It is located about two hours from Las Vegas. It makes for a great single day trip. The much of the wildlife and plant life are unique to the area. But there is an abundance of animal life common to the greater Mojave Desert that frequently is seen. There is hunting in some areas for both waterfowl and upland game. Dogs should be kept on leashes when outside vehicles for their protection as well as the protection of native wildlife."
"Very informative display about the environment and nature. Well done. There are hiking trails leading to natural springs in the desert. No entry fee."
"The refuge doesn’t have paved roads. The ride could be very bumpy. I would suggest to go in from the west rather from the south, which is more bumpy. I doubt you are able to see any animals except birds and small cute fish. There are several springs and water reservoirs that you can go. I would suggest to go to visitor center first to get advice where to go. Don’t waste your time to go to Devils holes. There is really nothing worthy."
"We really enjoyed our visit to Ash Meadows. Not everything is reopened from Hurricane Hillary, but many areas were open. Really cool desert oasis to check out, see the pup fish with some easy hikes along wooden boardwalks. The gift shop/exhibits are small, but the staff is really friendly and helpful. All the roads are gravel and some are narrowed due to hurricane damage. I’d take a higher clearance vehicle if you have one (though we saw a few sedans) and wait to wash your car until after your visit."
