He would often disguise himself as a plebeian and sneak out of the palace to enjoy pizza. Intrigued by this poor man's meal, his wife Maria Carolina and her sister, Marie Antoinette, soon joined him. Although the Queen would not allow pizza in the Palace, she did allow Ferdinand to install a pizza oven at their summer palace, Reggia di Capodimonte. This led to the birth of popular pizza parties hosted by the King and Queen.
