Frederick Douglass Unity House
The Frederick Douglass Unity House, located at 285 Old Westport Road in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, is a university institution established in 1995 as part of UMass Dartmouth's commitment to supporting its diverse student body. The Unity House provides a welcoming environment for ALANA students (African/Black, Latin@/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American/Indigenous, and Allies), offering support for academic, cultural, recreational, and social activities. Working in collaboration with the campus and community, the Frederick Douglass Unity House aims to empower and transform the student experience, with a focus on ALANA students, to promote lifelong learning. The mission of the Unity House is to create an inclusive environment that meets the academic, cultural, informational, and social needs of students, faculty, and staff of color.

As a cornerstone of the UMassD community, Unity Park offers more than just a tranquil outdoor setting; it is home to the Frederick Douglass Unity House, an intercultural center dedicated to empowering and transforming the student experience. Mel King Square
Welcome to Mel King Square, a vibrant community hub located on Yarmouth Street in the heart of Boston's historic South End neighborhood. Named in honor of the late Melvin Herbert King, a distinguished American politician, community organizer, and educator, our space is dedicated to fostering community spirit and development. Mel King was a towering figure in Boston's civic life, known for his tireless advocacy for low-income residents and his groundbreaking work in community organization. Over his long career, King made significant contributions to the city, including serving as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for nearly a decade and being a pivotal candidate in the 1983 Boston mayoral election. He was a pioneer in the fight for racial equality and social justice, establishing numerous programs and initiatives to empower Boston's diverse communities.
