“I love the indoor plants, the chill jazz music, and the choice of alt milks at this place. A downside is that the milk (for a flat white) wasn't steamed hot enough and so lacked texture, but the flavour still good, and it's nice to know that the beans are sourced from an independent roastery. The cakes are delicious, if not indulgent. There are also vegan/ gluten free options.”

“Such a lovely spot! This little gem has just been renovated with modern and cosy decor. We have been sitting outside in the small back terrace which is warmed up by heaters and found a lovely atmosphere. Staff is extremely friendly and made us feel welcomed and cared for. Food was delicious, they serve fresh ingredients with an Italian touch. Our mozzarella was so good! Prices are very honest. Recommended!!”

“Great food as usual. Weekend brunch menu from my last visit was different to the weekday’s lunch menu (this review). The weekend brunch is always busy and the favourites get sold out quick if you don’t get there early. Was abit skeptical about the lunch menu at first but had the Nduja quesadilla and it was delicious. The flat white with oat milk was smooth and excellent. Not quite sure about the heavy background music but it is called ‘dark arts’ after all.”

“Just moved to the area and was in need of a good local coffee shop and Balcone is incredible. Not only do they make incredible coffee, they stock lots of different roasters on rotation. Being able to pick up Cat and Cloud (at a super reasonable price) is incredible!”

“Had a delicious Sunday lunch here. The food and service was excellent. The chef was very accommodating for my friend's dietary requirements. We had the sweetcorn fritters and cumberland sausages and butternut squash in a freshly cooked tomato sauce. Highly recommended.”

“First of all, what a fantastic name for a cafe this place has. We were actually heading somewhere else for lunch when we passed by and loved the name enough to break our plans and eat here. We enjoyed a chai latte and one of their hot chocolates (we had salted caramel). Both were delicious and well made. We also tried two different toasties from their menu. The bread was delicious and perfectly toasted. The sandwiches were very much worth the change in our plans. We would visit again. Edit: we returned and tried additional menu items. They met the expectation set by our first visit. Friendly staff, too.”

“We were waiting for a train to Oxted and got chatting to another dog owner. They recommended this place, so we thought we would give it a shot and we are glad we did. A couple of lovely sandwiches and hot drinks in their calming sit down at the back of the shop. They even gave our puppy a little treat. Good portion of fresh salad on the side and great service from I presume the owners. Good chat too. A real local gem. Will definitely be back.”

“I had a fantastic breakfast here with family on the Easter bank holiday Monday. The café was fairly busy but service was prompt and the staff were friendly. The food was great - I had the "Hangover" breakfast - and there was just so much of it. I rarely visit Borehamwood but if I return I will be back for another breakfast.”

Have had a few stops there, had croissants, sausage rolls, they have a good menu and fresh sandwiches. The hot drinks are tasty, my favourite on a cold day is hot chocolate. Highly recommend a stop off there. Plus A* baklava.”
