Olive Hill Welcome Center and Trailhead Facility
● ClosedThe Olive Hill Welcome Center and Trailhead Facility, located at 140 Railroad Street in Olive Hill, Kentucky, is a historic building that once served as the Olive Hill C & O Depot. Constructed in 1910, the prairie-style building housed waiting rooms, a ticket office, a restroom, and a baggage room. The town of Olive Hill became known for its natural resources, attracting the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad to regularly stop in the area. The depot was a stop for passenger trains such as the George Washington and the Fast-Flying Virginian, but with a decrease in demand for timber and firebrick, passenger traffic ceased in 1971. Today, the depot has been repurposed as a Welcome Center and Trail Head for Olive Hill Trail Town Inc. Visitors can obtain information on local businesses, restaurants, trails, attractions, and more at the center, which also features a gift shop and displays on Olive Hill history, including a special exhibit donated by country music legend Tom T. Hall. Explore the rich history and natural beauty of Olive Hill at this unique institution.
