This institution boasts one of the largest public observatories in the world, featuring a 38-inch Cassegrain reflector telescope in addition to smaller telescopes and a state-of-the-art digital planetarium. The observatory is also home to one of the ten largest telescopes east of the Mississippi River. Recently renovated in 2015-2019, the facilities at Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium have undergone major upgrades to enhance the visitor experience. The telescope received a $425,000 refurbishment to improve its optics and research capabilities, while the planetarium underwent a $200,000 overhaul to become a fully digital, immersive fulldome theater.
