Explore the captivating W.F. Wellman Exhibit Hall, where a diverse range of exhibits awaits, from historical Model A Fords to delightful "A Christmas Story" window displays. Each exhibit is housed within our uniquely designed building, inspired by the natural beauty and industrial heritage of Northwest Indiana. Marvel at the structure's stainless steel "waves" and "sand dunes," which pay homage to Lake Michigan and the region's iconic landscapes.
Discover the rich history of the Calumet region through the "Calumet Voices, National Stories" exhibition. This collaborative showcase features local museums and highlights the area’s hidden gems and the voices that have shaped the American experience.
Our gift shop offers a delightful selection of memorabilia, including vintage South Shore Line posters, "A Christmas Story" movie collectibles, Albanese gummies, and Indiana-themed apparel and souvenirs. It's the perfect place to find a keepsake from your visit.

Plan your visit around our seasonal events, including the enchanting "A Christmas Story" Comes Home exhibit every November and December, complete with themed events and photo opportunities with Santa.
We are open daily with varying hours throughout the year. Summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day) are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the gift shop open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Fall through spring hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the gift shop open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please note our holiday hours and closures.

"One of our favorite state Welcome Centers! The Christmas Story displays for the movie were incredible!! This being the home of author Jean Shepherd who wrote the book which inspired the movie is from Hammond. Out front is a statue of the boy with his tongue stuck to the flag pole. Very nice laid out center, clean and one of the best gift shops around!"
"Awesome experience for our family all around!! We just visited for the "Christmas Story" experience and we re-lived our childhood for hours!! We watched it every year, every Christmas day growing up over and over again and we love the fact that we can have these memories at the forefront of our mind every year thanks to this incredible display and staff who dedicate their time and brilliant effort's into this magic!!!"
"We came here to see A Christmas Story display....and what a display it was! Family friendly for all ages. I suggest everyone to go. There's also a gift shop with sovereigns replica from the movie. There's over a dozen different Christmas trees from around the world that you can vote for your favorite. Santa is also on location during certain days."
